Wales 2014 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 USW Corris Grey
Radio - no sound / no mileage display at ignition 1st pos
Hi.

I've managed to recover my car today Puma 110 Utility 2014 2.2 (please previous post).
Briefly, the car went to someone for a few bits of work and the company went bust whilst my car was with the company. I've since been unable to speak to anyone from the now non-existent company. As such, I've no idea whether they started the re-map (one of the jobs that the car was in for) and whether the following might be related - although I think this is unlikely. The re-map has almost certainly NOT been done as the car drives as it always has with no noticeable power increase.

My radio appears to be working as normal but there is zero sound - no hiss, nothing.
Also, the milage display doesn't come up when the ignition key is turned to the 1st position as it always has done. The mileage display does illuminate and give mileage and trip readings as normal at position 3/4 on the ignition. Everything then is as normal, but still no sound from the radio.

I've checked all fuses visually in fuse box under the driver's seat and under the dashboard above the pedals (RH drive car).

Interestingly, the fuse layout label on the back of the secondary fuse box (under the dashboard - driver's side) says that the radio is the F21 fuse - but there is no fuse and no female tabs to receive a fuse, but there is a space. So I have F22 and F23 (heated seats) immediately above where F21 should be - but nothing where the fuse box cover says that F21 should be.

Many thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. Thumbs Up

If you’ve had problems with multiple circuits, the common ground can often be a culprit.

So main ground between battery negative to both grounding points.

This can be why fuses seem in-tact and no issues seem apparent, but there can be a significant voltage drop, and increase in current.
The voltage drop can simply mean circuits don’t work as many need 9v plus to work, if the drop goes to day 5v due to high impedance ground, then that could be the issue.

Especially Lilly if it’s multiple circuits at once, but if it’s a single circuit that there is a fault with then it the can be investigated further.

The radio may display but not work if it sees below a certain voltage threshold, at its supply, that could be from voltage supply, but also from the negative side all the way back to common ground as explained above.

Common ground issues can be common, if the vehicle has just came back from transmission works such as a clutch replacement, as the trans comes out sometimes and the grounding points get disconnected then refitted, sometimes they aren’t clean when refitted or not torqued, they can come loose as well.

These are some suggestions, there’s nothing to say this is it but worth looking at.
Loose battery clamps is also possible.
There is the live side too, but I feel this is less likely. ____\We|Will|Win/___
