What are you going to replace it with, would you consider a Grenadier?

On the 17th August i received an over the air update which include a fix for 'propulsion systems'. This didnt appear to fix the problem.
Today i got another one with the same desciption and while I don't want to get too excited just yet it does appear to be pulling away more seamlessly. Taking my foot off the break there appears to be minimal delay in pulling forward and it actually went forward when the accellerator was pressed rather than revs climbing and not going anywhere. Anyone else also get the update yet and notice the same? |

An update for my situation. I had a dealer inspect the vehicle with me a few weeks ago. They agreed there is an issue but at the time there were no fixes for it. They did re-do the gearbox adaptations and that improved the rolling back issue. It did not go away completely but it certainly improved.
A couple of days ago I received a notifications for a software update. The second within a few days, the version is 4.3.3 which specifically address the propulsions and transmission. I have only had the update for a day but I certainly feel that it had addressed the rolling back and the immediacy of the acceleration from a stand still. Will keep monitoring but fingers crossed the update did address the issues! ![]() Click image to enlarge Last edited by 200sxr on 21st Aug 2025 8:26am. Edited 4 times in total |

Sounds good.
I just received 4.3 update, but book with the dealer for Monday to get the patch applied. Lets see if I get something different. |

I done my online update, but it did nothing and the issue remains, it did say there was an update to the TCM for MY25 models in the description.
Edit: Just read the recent update was 4.3.3 mine was 4.3.0, so maybe that's why. |

Also received 2 updates within days. The second one 4.3.3 seemed to address this issue. I can clearly feel a difference. Let’s hope this issue is now resolved. I have driven 18000km like this, so it’s about time.

4.3.3 installed yesterday and I can feel a difference when engaging D. It doesn’t “pause” anymore.
Level ground and auto hold on. Not tested on a hill. Also from P to D there appears to be no pause in engaging. Hello everyone.
Just an update from my side after testing another bunch of cars recently. As others have mentioned, Software Update 4.3.3 seems to have finally significantly improved the issue of Gearbox Engagement Delay. I am of the opinion that if the cars behaved this way from the start, nobody would have noticed a thing. I see this as a massive win for us and encourage everyone to wait for the update to become available on their cars (it gets released in VIN batches, not all vehicles at once) and then test it to see for themselves. Everyone currently contemplating rejecting theirs due to this issue, please consider waiting. I know some of you have had unfortunate experiences with their respective dealers and the way this issue has been dealt with. Whilst bad service is inexcusable, the majority of dealers had very little info to work with and most cannot keep a car indefinitely until an issue which some people don't notice is fixed. The end is in sight folks, well done to everybody who voiced their concerns and kept on hammering and coaching their dealers and workshops. In my eyes at least, this has been a collective movement. Without the efforts of all of you, we might have been a lot further away from a fix. I know for a fact that many dealers are aware of this exact thread and have been using it in communications to JLR. Looking forward to more and more positive updates from the rest of you! Now you can finally enjoy the incredible car that the Defender is. |

Yes applied by the lra It’s better, but not fixed. Certainly less dangerous I’m surprised they are allowing a rejection, I know they didn’t for many. I’m still following up being lied to over the fault Mike |

I have had a dealer to apply the new patch manually while still maintaining the 4.3 software.
The improvement was noticeable and very satisfactory. I still received the 4.3.3 software over the air, but that didn't do anything I noticed. I looks like they reduced the reengagement time when going from neutral to drive while in drive and also increased the time delay for neutral in drive to engage when coming to a stop. While it is still largely in there, that masks the issue nicely and not as annoying as it was. |
