Td5 ignition start issue
My Td5 Defender recently had issues starting every now and then. I had the usual lights on the dash (coil, engine light) that went off as usual. Fuel pump came on too. But when going to crank it engine over, nothing. No click, no solenoid action, no movement at all. So I thought it was likely the ignition switch connectors going bad. Replaced it with a new Lucas ignition switch three days ago and all seemed sorted until today and the same issue reared it head again.

Any ideas what it might be? Bad ground connection on the transfer box? Wiring issues from the starter to the ignition switch? I bought the vehicle about 2 months ago and the previous owner had replaced the starter with a new unit. Any advice or recommendations appreciated!

Sounds like same symptoms as mine when the starter solenoid packed up, only a £20 part and a couple of hours max but a bit fiddly; helps if you have exactly the right length 3/8 extension for the 15mm top bolt. Obviously check the wiring first

Small connector on starter - is it OK or loose? You can check you starter by connecting this connector to 12V. Or a typical problem of these starters - worn contacts in solenoid - look for repair kit. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile
