I know this is probably not going to fully help but give you an idea, I think I seen someone on a M57 Facebook group selling 3D printed vents for exactly where you are thinking of installing them, I just cant remember what group and what was their name

Cheers, yes Empire do some to go on the back of the puma bonnet bulge but I believe due to windscreen it more likely to be an air intake rather than outlet there. I want air out and was thinking on sides of bonnet at back where air is flowing over them and will draw air out.

Do you have any space to run some duct from under the vehicle to force fresh air up into the bay? If you aren’t planning on wading the vehicle often. 2017 L494 Range Rover Sport SVR

I did a little experiment with my 606 110 by fitting an old bonnet with the dipped part in the centre cut out. Driven up the same hill at much the same speed the temperature at the top was around 5 degrees cooler. Quite how to make it look good, be rain tight ish I’m not sure yet. I think it’s about releasing the heat from within the engine bay rather than getting more air in. 1983 110 automatic OM606

James, could you not just wind the bonnet stops out a bit more and reset your bonnet striker so that you get a gap between the bonnet and wing top ? That would save drilling holes in the bonnet.

What about a couple of fans either side of the block pushing and drawing the air down and underneath the car?
Unsure about the wideblocks, but there is quite a lot of empty space either side of my narrow block engine, certainly enough to fit a couple of smallish fans if needed. Might be an unnecessarily and overly technical and another system to go wrong however. |

I was reading something similar recently, I know it would be try to do but supposidly raising the rear of the bonnet would have more benifit than raising at the front.
Potentially chronically stupid idea but what about a big chunky 80mm flexi hose with a 3d printed adapter to go within the front grill. Thinking the sort of motorsport brake cooling hose material, the black hose with metal insert with a hose wrapping around on either side of the engine bay... I would imagine I could just about squezze it the wings and over the wheel arches etc.. and direct cool, fast air straight at the rear of the engine above the gbox before it hits the bulkhead... Thoughts ![]() |

Or alternative stupid idea... The side vent by the heater, on mine it is soley a vent...
This could be changed to a scooped intake (3D printed) on the side with a hose attached again wiggling infront / underheath heater to direct cool air to back of engine bay.. |

True Tommobot but how would you raise the back of the bonnet? My thoughts were that by lifting the front of the bonnet you increase the size of the gap between bonnet and wing allowing more air out. Would adding exhaust wrap help or a turbo blanket?
Could you remove the front shock mount covers and let some heat escape via the wheel arches? but you might need some way of stopped dirt etc getting into the engine bay 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

There is almost always a problem with re-circulation of cooling air. That is hot air exiting the radiator and finding its way back through either the radiator or CAC and radiator. Check seals and that you have sufficient ducting to lead the air away from the front of the vehicle. The problem is more pronounced when the fan is engaged but that is also when it causes the most problem.
Letting air out the wheel houses could cause re-circulation to increase due to the turbulence. It will be very hard to verify that small changes have the desired effect. |
