I wonder if the cutoff is when they moved to the "td5" style dashboard

I imagine that the cut-off was whenever it became impossible to type approve side-facing seats, but I don't immediately know when that was.

There was a 2003 110 at my college which had the side facing seats in the rear, so would have been at least a 10-seater.
I suspect the death knell was the end of sideways facing seats as above, so 2006/7 when the Tdci came about. |

Did the 2003 have bench seats or individual side-facing seats in the rear, can you remember?

I seem to recall the middle seat was replaced with a cubby box to reduce the 110 from 10 seats to 9, to get over the 'minibus' insurance issue, but don't recall a date. James

It had individual seats I think, with lap belts. |

In that case it would have been a ten seater not a twelve. The twelve had bench seats.

My 1994 300 is / was a 12 seater.
I took out the benches, as I care for my passengers spines. Its still on the v5 as 12 though. (Its not for sale, this is just a comment) |

Confirm that my 2003 TD5 110 CSW came with 10 seats, not 12 so it could well be the changeover point was the facelift dash etc. |

Defender 12 Seater probably not sold in the UK because the side windows made it VAT unfriendly - photo from the LR brochure - 2 x 5 inward facing seats. Would make a great starting point for a pop-top camper conversion.

My old company car 300Tdi was also a 12 seater. I think it ended up back on a T reg (1999 ish) and was a factory non county (rubber mats, cloth seats, no sunroof and white roof, steel wheels) Used to really p!ss off the local plod when I drove down bus lanes in town.... rules back then (maybe a bit grey on my side, but I managed to blag it) was any vehicle with 12 or more seats was allowed to use a bus lane. |

We bought ours in Feb 02... 9 seater at that point, cubby box and 4 sideway seats in the rear. Seem to recall 2001 brochure showed 9 seats Cheers
