I’d give them a deadline to give the cash upfront in full. Get the money off them before the work is done/started. You are doing them a favour by not going through insurance, therefore it should be on your terms. 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

That's heartbreaking.
I would just go straight to insurance. Many years ago I had a bit of an incident which was my fault and I went out of my way to be nice to the guy I hit and get him the money he wanted as quick as I could. I kept communication going so the third party was happy and at the time I was a very young driver and couldn't really afford for a claim. If they are not communicating it sounds to me like they are stalling and their vehicle insurance really isn't your concern if it goes up. Sadly though, I would imagine even with no claims protection, this will put all your vehicle insurance premiums up at your next renewal even if it was not your fault. |

Sorry to hear this. I was driven into by a catering van in my 110 whilst I was parked in fleet services (not even in the land rover). The company were not communicating. To cut a long story short I went via my insurance as this was a no fault accident. The Land Rover was fixed but I had a renewal before the claim was settled . Even though I had no claims protection it cost me another £80 at renewal . Very frustrating. I also have to declare the accident on my classic policy and as a named driver on my wife's insurance.
it is important to get your insurance company to eventually issue confirmation this was resolved at no fault so you can evidence for the next 5 years (that seems to be the period they are interested in when getting quotes) Finally I would not go down the cash up front route as what would happen if costs rise above estimate? You will foot the bill not them. If under insurance it will be done at no more cost to you Hope that helps. 1984 One-Ten CSW 2010 XS USW (sold) 1957 Series One 88 diesel 1958 Series One 88 4x2 |

Agree with above. I had an old car twenty five years ago, it was parked outside work, in a public car park, around 7.30 am. An uninsured driver came hurtling into the car park and hit the car. There were several witnesses. I informed police and he paid me directly for the damage. Still a pain though. 1983 110 automatic OM606

Sorry to see this.
I’m sure the end result with a bit of effort will be great. My experience says go insurance… let them do what you pay them for. If you are happy to manage it yourself as others have stated give the other party a 24hour deadline. For sure they will try to drag it out…but this way you are in charge. Don’t feel bad..the world is full of messers / time wasters. If the insurance write it off then you buy it back and manage repairs yourself. In time you will end up with a car better than before. Just drive it forward and don’t be steered. 👍 Make today a little better than yesterday but not so good as tomorrow.... In your shoes I would go straight to my insurer and let them deal with it, you are contractually required to tell them anyway. Don't let them write it off. Don't trust the other party.
A lot of folk seem to think protecting your no-claims discount will prevent premium hikes after a claim, but it doesn't. The premium will go up, often dramatically, but the percentage discount - the thing you've actually protected - will stay the same. Result, your insurance increases although not as much as without protected NCD. |

If its a no blame accident and there is dash cam footage consider going straight to a claims management company.
As long as the evidence clearly shows that you are not at fault then the claims management company doesn't even contact your insurance company. They will contact the other party on your behalf and take all the stress off your shoulders and it costs you nothing. Jim |

Maybe they don't want to go through insurance because they are not insured, properly insured. As other have said use your insurers for what they are paid for, especially as you have dashcam evidence.

I've Gone through insurance...
I did check the Van was insured, it said it was (it was a 24 plate Transit) First I had to ring the Police to get a refrence number Then the insurance. Now I have two options, use a prefer garage or use one of theirs. There are other benifits / diffrences but it was long and drawn out... As it happends I'm going to a local garage tomorrow in another car so will speak to the Boss and ask would he be able to do it. I'm still worried the labour rate will deem it a right off... This car is NOT dying like this !! its a fighter !! Will update once I know more... |

Good move👍
So speaking from my write off experience do not let the vehicle out of sight. It’s your car you can decide where it goes Decline all offers of “ Accident Management” Decline the offer of “ safe storage” Decline the offer of transport to a repair centre of any description. Only allow the car to go where you know and have access too. My classic car was “ written off”. It was a simple repair which I hoped to do. The insurance company collected it for evaluation. Despite my best efforts I never saw the car again till I spotted it at an auction. Ok so I got paid out… but I wanted the car. Please tread very carefully Clemmo Make today a little better than yesterday but not so good as tomorrow.... ^ That's good advice,
Choosing a garage I know and a person I have dealt with before makes sence then. I will speak to him tomorrow and see where I'm at. As your right their 'prefred' garage was a accident repair specialist I've never heard of, ok it was fairly close and I don't discpute they could put a ford focu back together but this is a bit diffrent. Your not walking to the parts depo in JLR and say can I have a wing for a 1973 LR Series 3 ![]() Thanks for the heads up. |

Scott, sorry to hear this has happened, but hopefully this is an opportunity to improve the old girl.
I dont know if its true, but I'm sure I've heard before that the 3rd parties insurers cant just deem your vehicle a write off. Yes it may well be beyond economical repair for them, but their responsibility is to rectify the damage to its pre-accident condition. Its different if you were the responsible party, then yes they could deem it a total loss. As others have said, its yours, dont let it out of your sight. 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW |

Scott
Don’t be concerned about a write off It can work to your advantage. As an example:- Imagine they pay out £10k Scrap value is £4k So you agree to keep the car and take £6k ( hypothetical values) Then you have £6k to manage the repairs You ensure you get what you want and probably do a little extra along the way. Hope this makes sense. I have done this and at the end felt I had got a better vehicle. Clemmo Make today a little better than yesterday but not so good as tomorrow.... I would get a quote for a replacement chassis, don't get involved with chassis nose sections etc. Go and see the company manager in person and get a answer from them direct. A delivery driver drove along the side of my daughter's car they had the same arrangement the their insurance is prohibitive without any accidents [would you want to insure a fleet of delivery vehicles doing thousands of inner city miles per year?] I gave them a estimate for a proper repair using genuine parts and they paid it into their bank account. They may want to pay the repairer direct but don't get involved with the insurance company because you will more than likely loose the vehicle and it will cost you for many years to come even possibly getting a refused insurance marker.
