Looking for remote control item

My neighbour has asked me to purchase him another remote control from eBay for his 2011 Defender.

I’ve seen a few that are like new & a fraction of the price of the new item.

His friend at work said he has a programmer so just go get yourself the remote & come to me but before I order one I’m looking for some advice towards me having to do anything to it before his mate tries to pair it with his vehicle.

Thanks.

If it’s a genuine Lucas fob, designed to work with a defender 10AS ( or latter ALM CHxxxxx unit) , I.e correct frequencies etc ( look at existing ones to confirm) and it’s not just the plastic case. Then a diagnostic tool such as a Nanocom will be able to register it with your 10AS or ALM CHxxxxx Alarm ECU.

Ps a 2011 will have a 10AS from factory, not a ALM CHxxxxx.

Hi,
I believe the tool my neighbour said he had was a Nanocom.
The item on eBay is a used circuit board in a new condition case.
The pcb had 3TXD on it.
Was advised it’s 433 MHz

My concern was as it’s used would it programme straight in or do I / we need to say “ clear it’s memory “ etc from vehicle it was taken from ?

Thanks.

You don’t have to clear from original vehicle 10AS , just program to your 10AS.

Note that when adding a new fob you need to re-add existing fobs at the same time.

Thanks.
I did mention to him that I’m sure the original working remote is say deleted & when you press button on new remote you then also have to do the same to original remote.

I made an error with this.
Neighbour doesn’t use pc or phones etc & that’s why he asked me to order one for him.
He’s gone away & I assumed these were all the same but eBay seller said the board is marked 3TXD
So know I’m thinking why didn’t I take my neighbours out before he went away.

Can you advise if 3TXD is correct or do I need to wait until he comes home ?

You really need to check the number on the existing remote and get the same

Beware the aftermarket versions - in my experience they eat batteries and the batteries are not widely stocked anywhere. Have a look here -

In this case I would say it's money well spent.

The item is a USED circuit board placed into a new case.

It’s not a new Chinese or aftermarket item.
It s a genuine circuit board taken from a dead defender

Do you have a remote that you could pop the case open and confirm the circuit board reads 3TXD
Thanks.

Sadly my comments about lousy aftermarket fobs is forged by bitter experience, my fobs are both fakes Sad

Mine say XP17 V1.7

Looking on the Remote Key website they state 433MHz is for the Euro market and the UK version is 315MHz
