Puma 2-pinion front diff is definitely NOT up to the job - just replaced my seized and disintegrated unit with an Ashcroft ATB diff. Details and photos on another thread.

Replacing the diff has improved the gearchange enormously.

Where’s that thread BW?

I cannot easily find whichever thread I was referring to, but the photos of my failed diff appear in the following two (much more recent) threads:

I can quite see Blackwolf’s views on the rear driveline affecting gearchange, you can get a lot of slop alone from the rear halfshafts and DM’s, that’s on top of slip from the diff itself and other components.
Rear dampers also are another factor where you get changes in weight distribution during and after load.
In those circumstances you get an on off power delivery during each gear change, as you feel you need to ease off and then back on power after going into gear.

Oils make a difference too, especially if diff oil gets thickened or emulsified, you get more drag and less of a slick ride as well then.
Personally, I’m really happy with Castrol oils, I’ve recently gone all out with a full service with premium Castrol, oils and Castrol grease and I can tell the difference.
Even the Castrol, high temp lithium is nice and slick. _\Hennessey|Venom| F5/___
