Good day.
For the last couple of weeks there has been a ticking noise coming from the front (I think). The noise can be heard when coasting or when braking. The noise seem to disappear when accelerating (this can also be due to the engine noise, lol). I have taken the wheels off to search for a rock that may be stuck between one of the disk brakes but to no success. What can cause this noise. What would be the first thing to look at or investigate. Any help would be appreciated. I have posted a youtube video. Sorry for the wind noise, I tried to take the video while driving. Prop UJ?
Remove prop and check for noise. If a 110 I would say check front diff, but 90s tend to be ok with front diffs. |

I haven't seen your video but would be inclined to check the four UJs in your propshafts as a first step. It is surprising the range of noise a failing UJ can make, and it is quite common for the noise to differ between drive and overrun.

Thanks for the replies.
I have checked all of the tyres and found no stones or rocks. I will check the universal joint on the prop shaft and report back. |

Just want to make sure you noted what was stated above. (first chock the wheels) You need to REMOVE the prop shafts to check them properly.

Maybe start with just lifting one wheel at a time and spin it, if you are lucky you can hear it and identify the cause.
With the wheel still on but in the air you can also check the front part of the drivetrain from underneath. Rotate the prop and feel if there is any harshness or play. Grease all the joints and go for another drive. Did the grease change the character of the sound? I am proposing these steps as I just did one UJ on the front prop and removing the prop and installing it again is less fun than it sounds. |
