Differences between 200tdi vs 300tdi/td5 steering box
Hi i just removed the steering box of my Defe 2001 td5 crew cab 110 cause leaks. I disassembly it and took it to a defender specialist for rebuilt it as it had some corrosions. After he rebuild it he asked me from what car is as this steering box is from 200tdi he told me:( i never mentioned before the model of my car:) Now he told me not to put it back and to put a newer one as 300tdi and td5s are lighter and also on shaft has 3 bearings… can you help me please if he is right? Td5 should be 4 bolt. Hp fittings are different if yours isint 4 bolt but I expect it is.

Either way other than the leak if you were happy with it before then refit it. Cheers

4 bolts are all. 200tdi, 300tdi and td5. Please look the pictures i uploaded before

He is almost right.

The earlier 4 bolt boxes have bushes instead of needle bearings. But I doubt if the needle bearings make it lighter or better.
