Track Rod Ends - which ones?
Whilst re-doing a collapsed swivel bearing, I noticed my TREs aren't great. They don't have visible/audible clunks but are pretty loose and can be pushed with just a fingertip. I assume they are probably ready to be replaced?

Previously I used the greaseable version supplied Gwyn Lewis but not sure they have lasted any longer than normal so what brands are people using these days? 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop

Which Gwyn ones? He does three versions.

I’ve just swapped mine and went with the Lemforder track rod ends that he does that a greaseable

I’m surprised the GL TRE’s didn’t last.

Was it perhaps the earlier type with the rubber boot? The later versions have the polyurethane boot and I would imagine would last a very long time.
If the main TRE is intact you could buy the upgraded boots?

The geasable Lemforder are a good buy, but I’ve had no problem with the ‘std’ GL greasable TRE with poly boots.

I’ve killed his wide angle TRE that he recommends with his extreme articulation setups. But then they are cheap. It wasn’t the boots, it would be the plastic cups inside that failed. Part of me thought about just going with the same and just carrying spares, but it is a pizzer to have to keep setting up the steering geometry. The Lem’s have a metal cup, and metal spring inside which stands up to potholes and jarring better, but don’t give such great articulation.

Thank you for all of the helpful replies, it's most appreciated Thumbs Up

Looking back through old invoices, I think I used the HD version that Gwyn supplies and then about a year later I fitted the polyurethane boots when he started selling those. Admittedly, the TREs are 6 years old but have not done a huge mileage (sub 10K) so had a reasonable lifespan. Looks like the Lemforder solution would be a sensible option given the ARBs probably restrict the suspension travel as is Very Happy 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop

Alot depends on the type of mileage rather than no of miles.

Lemforder greasable seem to last longest on my various setup. Cheers
