300TDi crankshaft nose oil seal leak
Hi,
any caveats or special tools to help replacing the inner and outer oil seal for the timing cover on a 300TDi?

Mine has had a minor leak for too long and I plan to DIY rather than trust to a garage.

Intent is to use genuine /corteco oil seals.

Anything else I should be aware of?

Are you aware that replacing the crank oil seal involves removing the timing belt? Time for new belt and idler/tension pulleys plus setting up the timing.

There's an O ring in there as well which is more for sealing the oil. The seal stops crap going into the sump, the O ring helps stop the oil coming out.

Seating the seal can be a bit of a Censored but using two crank sprockets and the crank pulley bolt it can be driven in slowly and evenly. Ed
