Could it be dirt in the fuel?
Are the fuel tank and fuel lines quite old or have they been replaced? Corrosion in the tank or degrading fuel lines can sometimes be the culprit. Hopefully it will be something quick/easy and inexpensive 👍 |

Petrol or diesel?
Lots of problems now due to ethanol in petrol. ![]() |

Like you,
I do think its fuel related? I mean there is not an awful lot it can be... the fuel tank is relativly new... approx 4 years maybe 5 I have a new fuel filter and some hose and will see if I can change the pipe I can and hopefully this helps. Interestingly it was better when full of fuel or this may ust be in my head... |

Is it only doing it when the tank is low on fuel? Under 1/4 tank, for example? 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

Check for crud in the float chamber.
If a classic LR has been unused for a time with ethanol petrol in the tank there is a high risk of corrosion and oxidisation in almost all of the fuel system, and it is not unknown for the brass mesh on the pick-up to.dissolve completely. Synthetic components such as 'rubber' pipes can swell internally and become blocked. There's also a tendency for a chalky white crud (currently unidentified) to accumulate in the carb. It is disturbing how quickly those can happen too. If you're laying up a petrol Series for a.while, e.g., over winter, I suggest running it completely out of fuel then putting a gallon of Aspen 4 in the tank, priming, and running on that for a few minutes. The Aspen has a very long life and is ethanol-free. |

Never owned (but wish) or worked on a petrol 2 1/4, so not specifically LR, but why is electrical dismissed? I would not overlook the high tension leads, points, distributer cap and coil. How old are they? Are the high tension leads fully pushed on to the spark plugs? 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Electrical gremlins haven't been dismissed, they're next on the list after fuel gremlins!
