Thought I’d ask for opinions on the different shows coming up and what to expect, given my experiences so far.
I’ve had my 110 since Oct 24 and there are a few bits I want to change. The internet is great for different options but there are some things I want to see in the flesh to get a feel for quality and craftsmanship - it does seem to vary considerably and not always in relation to price either. So far, I’ve been to Great British Land Rover shows at Stoneleigh and recently Bath. I was hoping for an extensive trade attendance to get a feel for how products compare (mainly wheels, tyres and side steps, but also chassis & engine conversions). Honestly, I was a little disappointed at the lack of trade exhibitors. I know why traders find shows a challenge and fully understand their reticence to attend them all, so my question is which of the shows, if any, will give me the most extensive trade experience ? Worth adding - walking through the parking areas at both shows was interesting and helpful to see some of the things I’m interested in, but not necessarily worth £18. Hopefully that doesn’t sound too tight ! I’m aware of LRO this weekend but had discounted it based on experience so far and “someone told me” the Newark show is the most expansive. I’m also aware that different owners are looking for different experiences, so not critical of what I’ve experienced thus far, just looking for something particular. Thanks in advance. H |

I went to Castlewood 4x4 Show in Cheshire last Sunday. There was Flatdog, Demand Engineering and Pennine Overland all of whom I wanted see. Spent quite a bit with Flatdog as it turns out. Tuff Trek and a few other known names were there too, but nothing like the pre-Covid days of the LRO show and the like. It does cater for other marques as well so quite few exhibitors were selling not relevant to Land Rovers. Plenty of those generic tat stalls selling pick-n-mix and plastic toys from China of dubious quality. I did get a very nice LR hoody for £25
![]() But, the biggest thing for me was the lack of punters. There was hardly anyone there. I can't see it being viable with that level of foot fall. Maybe price was an issue. 2 adults and a small child was £50 which seems a lot considering you are there spend money anyway. It was glorious weather, and well located just off the M6. Maybe they don't promote it properly. Its run by the same people who now do the LRO show at Belvoir (Live Promotions?). 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

You don't say what you are looking for, ie, trim/exterior/wheels etc. Rather than trawling shows as I have done in the past I now look for vehicles for sale at specialist dealers with the parts I'm interested in - and it's free
When researching pop-tops I visited Nene Overland, for Ply Guys interiors and roof tents I called in at the Ryton headquarters of JLR Classics. Some might accuse me of being a time waster but if they have a showroom open to the public then it is no worse than browsing in say John Lewis for furniture. In the end I opted for a X-Vision-X pop top (being fitted in Germany as we speak) and ordered some Harris Tweed interior trim direct from the Ply Guys |

“mainly wheels, tyres and side steps, but also chassis & engine conversions”
The advantage of a show (certainly with other Marques and specialist vehicles that I’ve attended in the past) was all those competitors in the same place, so real time comparisons. Thanks to those that have replied. I’ll continue to contemplate the options out there. |

Went to Malvern this weekend, relatively new show so still growing but there’s the usual oily second hand parts that definitely aren’t stolen😉, a couple of chassis suppliers, a tuning company, a few small parts suppliers but none of the big boys, companies selling new panels, suspension bits, bumpers, shiny bits, overpriced anodised aluminium bling, recon transfer boxes and diffs, shiny SS exhausts.
The LRO show has a bigger selection of vendors but I like Malvern as the setting is lovely and my parents live there so I can combine a visit to them with the show. The biggest and best show I’ve been to is Abenteur and ALLRAD in Germany, it’s on a whole different level to anything in the UK but isn’t a Land Rover show although they are catered for, it’s an overland show and you can spend a few euros there or a few hundred thousand🤷♂️ |
