8HP behind a M57N2
Hi

I’ve just swapped out my 6HP28X for a 8HP70X and have been trying the get to grips with the CANTCU controller.

The issue I have is I’m not getting a wheel speed value to the TCU. It’s in a Puma so I’m using the HoT M57 to Puma dashboard interface and loom. It was an issue for the 6HP but didn’t make so much if a difference. For the 8HP I’ve had the select wheel speed simulator otherwise it behaves very erratically, holding gears etc.

The question is why don’t I get a wheel speed value in the TCU? Could it be as simple as a wheel sensor or has anyone else had a similar issue with setup?

Thanks. 2008 Defender 110 XS SW - M57N2 / 8HP70X

The 6HP was good for about a year. It developed a couple of issues. Firstly when cold it wouldn’t select 6th for the first mile or so. I then developed a speed related whine which was pretty loud. Initially thought that was transfer box related so swapped that but it was still there.

I’d already started gathering the bits for the 8HP conversion (picked up a very cheap box due to it’s BMW transfer case being damaged etc) and also wanted to make move from the 1.2 transfer box to a 1.1 for a more relaxed cruising speed. So while it was all coming apart anyway decided to move to the 8HP.

Swapping the transmission on the drive with the engine in wasn’t much fun. I think it was easier swinging in the engine, gearbox and transfer box as one lump when I did the initial conversion!

Already it is a much smoother drive and if I can sort the wheel speed issue should be able to improve that further with a bit of tuning of TCU.

Can't help either, but with the wheel speed simulator, as long as the diff ratio and tyre size is correct CANTCU seems to work it out pretty faultlessly.

I've got no wheelspeed sensors or any modern bits, so its soley on relying on the simulator but behaves perfectly

It seems to be okay so far. I’ve calculated the final drive ratio, ie diff ratio and transfer box ratio combined and it seems to work so far. I’ll still chase down the issue with the wheel speed sensor though. An ABS and TCS light popped up this morning so clearly there’s a problem and probably a sensor. 2008 Defender 110 XS SW - M57N2 / 8HP70X
