So it carries the door as it swings out?

I've had a look through forums and YouTube, that video is great, and I love that guy, he's funny! But my issue is that the door has no existing markings on it, from previous carrier or other. I am not sure where exactly the plate needs to be positioned. I don't know if anyone else has tried without any existing markings or holes?
Thanks for the response though! Brian |

Like in the Britannia video, don't you just "offer it up" mark the holes and drill them?

Sounds you have an aftermarket door. I could measure from bottom and left/right edge of my door (later pressed steel door) just to give you an idea. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

The spare wheel carrier is bolted to the cross member inside the door with the bolts just going through the door skin.
So open the door, remove the inner panel and you will see the bolts go. Either measure and mark up or drill from inside to out with pilot bit. |

None of the holes in the door seem to line up with those on the carrier plate. If I install the arm first, then I could possibly offer it up, mark and drill, but that still feels like i would be guessing.

Dohhh… forgot to measure. The Defender is not my daily, and parked a bit away from home… and my new to me motorcycle parked next to it is kind of taking my attention
![]() I remember that on my old LandRover build thread there are some pictures of the rear door. On the page the below link opens you can see the external side of the door frame without the skin. You can see where the holes are located. On the following page, there are some more pictures. https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72365-360.html There are 2 types of spare wheel carriers that fit older doors. The smaller one has a backing plate that fits inside that space enclosed by the door frame. Its like below. ![]() The later ones are larger and the backing plate sandwich the frame section. I think that one has same bolt pattern as the later design. But unsure if the bolt pattern are exactly identical as most likely you have the carrier for the pressed steel door (2002 ish onwards). 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

![]() I'm pretty sure the holes I've circled in this picture will line up with some of the ones on the Britpart backplate. If you had such a plate, a quick drawing with some measurements of where the holes are would be a great help. I think that panel would fit perfectly into the section below the wiper mechanism on my door. Once I locate one, the rest should be easy! |

Measured this hole and it matches the dimensions of the old door

Hi, thank you so much for these measurements. I am sure I will be able to use them. I will post when I'm done.
Thanks again, very grateful! |
