Re: 10 to 13"

Thanks to ThunderBobs post on his AliExpress find I was able to upgrade my 10" to a 13.3" screen today. Overall it was 1.5hrs taking my time to complete end to end. Watched the screen removal video from PowerfullUK for the disassembly. As far as the new screen goes I'm impressed with the adapter bracket which i think beats other options for retrofit hands down. Also the build quality seems to be no different to OEM and the screen resolution and color is excellent. I found with the OEM 10" Panasonic the touch was less responsive with the new aftermarket being much faster. Once installed I used my gap tool to update the car config to the 11" screen size and then performed a PIVI reset. Once everything came back up I swiped up from the bottom of the screen for the hidden menu to select 11.6". Totally improves the look of the vehicle and makes for an easy to quickly read screen while in motion. Maps and media are massively improved on the additional screen space. 10/10 from me for this plug and play upgrade.

Package contents (adapter bracket, side brackets if upgrading from 11", screen, clips, cable to program if you dont have a gap tool)

Hi LostCause - about to install mine and have a few questions.

The mounting bracket is installed first, using the OEM screws from the 10" display, and then the new 13" display is just held in with the plastic clips? If you ever needed to remove the 13" display, I suppose you just yank forward on it to release the clips?

Do you need to disconnect the battery when doing the install?

Lastly - have you ever had the black screen issue with the new display? I think I read somewhere there's a recall out for it, but I suppose it wouldn't apply with this upgrade.

ThunderBob, please feel free to reply as well with your input. Thanks!

The display is just held by the four plastic clips. I have indeed removed it after installation; it requires a strong pull to to dislodge. You pull it straight out.

Disconnecting the battery is always recommended, I did not disconnect my battery when I installed mine. However I did wear a wrist grounding strap when I unplugged the original display and when I plugged in the new display. Remember the screen powers up sometimes even when you haven’t pressed start button.

I have not encountered the blank screen issue but be aware that you may encounter a blank screen if you change the CCF file before you access the hidden menu to change the internal configuration to 11.4

I don’t believe the recall would apply to the new display.

Good luck!

I’ve not had the blank screen issue either. That said there is an open recall requiring update at the dealership. The update is for “image processor A” I don’t believe this is inside the actual screen.

l actually think the vehicle interior looks worse with the larger screen. The small screen looks like it's supposed to be there rather than stuck out in front as the larger screen is.

But that's only my opinion. I am obviously in the minority as most owners nowadays want the large media screen.

At least there will be plenty of 10" screens on Ebay if mine ever fails! A bit like the steel wheels.

No, you're not alone, I agree with that, I also think the 9" fits better with the environment and is less invasive, it looks better fitted and harmonious... the 11", and I'm not even mentioning the 13" ones, take on too much importance, everything else fades into the background and everything starts to look strange and too much like tuning and aftermarket style…all in a world where everything copies, at least until now, an unnameable American manufacturer with a copied name by the way... I only recognize a point of practicality in large screens because they actually look better... but for me it's not worth the effort, and I'm not convinced by the result, so I like my 9" as it is… And it's a shame, it would have been wonderful, and unique, if LR thought of a quick disconnection system and had made it portable... it would have been a total success!!! Defender 110 SE I6 D250 23MY

Agree. I think the original screen just looked right. Never once did I think I needed a bigger screen when using it. Reminds me of those Ali Express add ons. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.
