The Penrite oil site provides a good insight into the ACEA standards. Including C1 is Sulphated Ash <0.5% , and C3 is Sulphated Ash < 0.8%.

These percentages are small, however in comparison C3 would potentially have 60% more sulphared ash than a C1, which would not be good for a DPF.

That indeed is very informative Thumbs Up

The thing is that the more I read is the more seems like that the C1 protects the dpf and to certain extent the environment more than the engine. And engine failure is not cheap either.

Very confusing. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black

I think you sum it up perfectly, hence my strategy to balance things up is to use C1 oil to protect the DPF but change Oil every 5K miles or less to protect engine.

Wise choice, the engine will thank you for it.

Looking for my oil change at the end of summer, anybody had good or bad reports on the below oils ?

PETRONAS Syntium 5000 FJ 5W-30 Fully Synthetic Car Engine Oil

or

RAVENOL FLJ SAE 5W-30

Both meet the LR/Ford spec WSS-M2C934-B

Smith & Allen
Hi all

What would the the recommendations be on this for my 2.2?

https://www.smithandallan.com/product/smit...e-oil-4127

It meets the correct specs, I have used them for my series but that's a bit more accomadating to differing gardes of oil.

Cheers Mike

Hi Mike, My basic assessment.
Looking at their site the oil does meet the correct spec for 2.2 with DPF.
They have been around since 1925 and have quality measures in place to ensure they meet the specifications they state for their oil products.
The price looks good, especially if you purchase 20L. However I can’t see the delivery costs.
You have bought their oil for you series and are happy with its performance.

So it looks good to me, even more so if you intend to change the oil every circa 5k miles as I do.

Thanks for the the response ian. I was certainly happy withe the ep90 in the series before I detonated the gearbox for the 3rd time. Not an oil issue but a over gearing and weak 3rd gear.

Iv had a new LOF clutch fitted last week. Whilst both boxes were out I replaced both with EP90. I can tell that it’s thicker but Gear change is tight and quiet.

Will this oil be okay in a Puma 2.2?

I actually bought it for my TD5, but it never got used. l've got 10 litres and it's a shame to waste it.

The DPF should require "C1" which means lower "SAPS" than your "C2".
The correct spec for a 2.2 would be 5W-30 C1, Ford WSS-M2C934-B.
