United Kingdom 1989 Defender 90 300 Tdi CSW Arles Blue
Successful bank holiday weekend of painting - Sunday I got the undercoat on:

And then on Monday I got the first coat of top coat put on and I'm really pleased with the results - really nice shine and depth of colour to it, clearly a very high quality paint.

Will be putting another 2 coats on top of this for a nice thick layer and then I'll get on with top coating the doors/bonnet etc. Then the small task of putting it all back together Very Happy

Thanks, it's Arles blue (believe the same as Windjammer blue?) and yes has a good gloss finish straight out of the gun Thumbs Up Matt.

Paint looks great. What type is it?

And what kind of spraying setup are you using?

It’s coach enamel paint from Paintman, as linked below. I went for traditional synthetic enamel, gloss finish.

https://paintman.co.uk/shop/land-rover-arles-blue-lrc424/

As for the paint setup it’s nothing fancy really, a small 20 ish litre compressor and a cheap eBay HVLP spray gun (£40 ish). I did most of the prep manually, finishing in 240 grit before priming, then been wet-sanding at around 400 grit between coats where needed. Then just follow the steps as per Paintman’s instructions with regards to thinning and prepping etc.[/url] Matt.

It’s a great finish. I presume it’ll need a lacquer coat for longevity then?

Paintman do sell a clearcoat but there’s nothing on the website to indicate it’s really necessary. My plan is to just lay 3 decent coats on which should be plenty of thickness to allow for future buffing to keep the shine.

I’ve already tested doing some wet sanding with 1500 grit, then a quick buff and it comes back up to a lovely shine from the dull finish left after sanding so confident with a little bit of effort it’ll stay looking good. The beauty of that is if it ever gets scratched you can just gently sand the scratch out and polish without having to worry about burning through a clear coat. Matt.

I haven't tackled the squeal on the front corner yet, plan to finish the respray, then strip down the offending hub and inspect wheel bearings etc. Otherwise brake pedal, ignition barrel etc all sorted, just need to refit the plastic shrouds Thumbs Up Matt.
