My first car was a '66 Triumph 2000 MK1 with the Laycock overdrive, and very nice it was too. The trouble back then was the life expectancy of any British mass-produced car was about 10 years due to a complete absence of rust protection, so it biodegraded around me.

I feel rather sorry for the Capri and the two butchered Bentleys, some folk shouldn't be allowed near cars!

I didn’t even recognise that as a Capri until you mentioned it BW.
That is egregious.

Probably the least successful and most overrated British racing car of all time, but nice nonetheless. I'd rather have a Speed Six myself.

I've not seen Mad Max but I thought Frankenstein was the champion in Death Race 2000. Is there some connection I'm missing?

Yes Frankenstein was in the film Death race with Jason Statham Thumbs Up

The only connection i think with the Mad Max films is the diversity of vehicles they used Very Happy 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.

A14 Newmarket Bypass yesterday, a very very tidy G Reg 1989/90 3 door Ford Escort Estate 1.6GL

GL, for the owner who wanted a bit more luxury but couldn’t quite manage the price of a Ghia.

I’m a child of the 70’s. These were the Escorts of my youth, but it looked really weird. I had to double take it to be honest as I didn’t recognise the shape. Maybe it was because it was a three door estate. Can’t remember the last time I clocked one on the road?

its been a good while since i saw a escort 3 door estate of that era, i did see a facebook thread on maxpower cars, and most of those are practically dead now. But what you saw, Saxo, renault 5, Nova, AX, Escorts, Peugeot x06s ( 106, 206 etc) and so on, and i was bloody hell, the saxo is said to be practically extinct know. Just for the record, the 306 that featured on topgear, that got beaten by Austin. One of the lads on the 306 forum found that in a scrap yard in Scotland back in 2013, The photos that pop up are his photos of it, in the yard at the time. When look back how things have changed since those days till now. Its all about Pop corn Remaps, that's about it. Rolling Eyes Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

I owned and restored and modified a 2500, it was a MK2 1972, fitted with the 2.5 engine, twin SU's, gas flowed head with the later J type overdrive and Datsun drive shafts. It was a great car, fast and reliable. It's still on the road today, according to MOT history.

I kept it as a daily driver for 12 years.

You can almost add Royal Mail delivery vans to that list now.

Around here they have almost gone extinct. Within the last two months it has been really noticeable.
