2002 Defender 110 Td5 DCPU Chawton White

I recall seeing a U-Tube where people were lementing the loss of dedicated buttons in favour of screens both in terms of practicality and also future support. They interviewed a 'car designer' who claimed the main driver for the manufacturer was cost and these screens were globally sourced for pennies with no concerns about longlivity.

I think modern car are going to see a very steep depreciation, with electronics being the new rust.

Do you want to buy a 6 year old Mercedes where the whole freaking dash is one massive LCD? What if that fails? I lived in Abu Dhabi where one feature of a scond cars was that displays were not burned out by the heat.

The loaner 110 I’m in at the moment did this to me today, parked it up for 6 hours came back and it’s working again. Just plain sketchy. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Never had any issues with mine, l think it may have done it once last year sometime.

I was wondering about the lifespan of these displays. I wonder what the cost of a replacement is!

i have the same problem, LR already changed my PIVI screen modul, persist on.

Since the update it seems to be solved. I am curious if it holds on. The update is quite fresh, so i think i have to wait until i can be sure.

Mine just updated to 4.1.1_
Not sure what version that is but I still get a black screen occasionally

After update 4.1.3 still an issue with the black screen in my car.
On 4.1.1 it was both a vision and sound failure, where I would get sound only through a few speakers without subwoofer.
After 4.1.3 it is only a visual fault.

So it is half fixed now. 😳 Greetings

I can confirm that this seems not to be a software issue. After 4.1.3 today i had again the blank screen after pushing the start button.

I´m thinking about complaining about this now in an official way. Unfortunately we do not have a good dealer in a distance below 30 km.

I ordered the replacement of the control unit at the LR dealership. We'll know after the replacement if it helps at all... I'll let you know

My car has just updated tonight to 4.1.6 which it says fixes the black screen issue. Time will tell

Interesting to hear, sounds very good as the problem might be solved. I made a date at the dealer for a software update on 13th May, maybe/hopefully this will be obsolete.
