Losing the will to live with this Defender, have replaced the engine due to melted piston, new engine runs okay but hideous oil leak. Changed alternator as the vacuum pump was leaking badly. However looked this morning and i still have a substantial oil leak on the front right corner of the engine.
There isnt much there to leak really. Fairly sure its not the vac pump feed or drain. Only other thought is the timing chain tensioner. Its definetly the front corner, dripping off the bottom of the alternator mounting. Any suggestions at all please? Cheers 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

Got chance to investigate again yesterday afternoon, top of the new alternator and vac pump is nice and clean, no signs of leakage around the tensioner or oil feed. However, the blanking plug on the front of the cam sprocket was hanging out
![]() Have swapped it out for another one I have which looked to have a better o-ring. Hopefully that will solve the issue now. It was certainly not an issue when i changed the alternator the other weekend. Cheers, Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

I think the front cam seal never seals. They always seem to leak even with sealant. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Yes thats the one. Can't attest to how long it lasts as it's only been in about 3 weeks, but its a significantly snugger fit
