Non-Standard Steel Wheel Choices

Hi All, I'm looking at changing my wheels to steel after years on alloys of one sort or another. I want to check I have considered all the options before pulling the trigger on the usual suspects.

I know this has been asked hundreds of times but no one will know like you fine gentlemen. What choices are oute there that aren't the plain standard steel rim, wolfs, 8 spokes or modulars?

Also not a fan of Mach 5/ZU style of rim though I understand those are alloy.

What else exists and look like they belong on the truck? The truck is black if that makes a difference.

The only steel wheels that look like they belong on a Defender are,
Standard steels.
Wolf, or non genuine wolf style with a different offset.
Nakatanenga ANR, 8x16"

Mach 5 certainly used to be steel. Although I believe an alloy variant or look a like was offered later on.

Lots of rims over the years, but you may only find some 2nd these days such as the Weller 15" rims.

I believe Urban/Kahn/Chelsea MoCo also do various steel wheels in the appropriate fitment.

Lucari have also launched a deeper dished steel wheel. Available in 16 & 18" fitments.

There's also various banded steel options, but people's opinions on these tend to be fairly divided. I was very tempted to get my spare set of wolfs banded, but in the end wanted an 18" rim so went a different direction.

I wouldn't say I'm ruling them out, just looking for less common alternatives. It looks like most peoples' choices are limited to just a few designs so it would be good to see what else is about.

Steel wheels have always had less flamboyant designs than alloy ones. Not just Land Rover, but pretty much all cars. I suspect you won't find a huge variety really. And these days of bling and Defenders being handbag fashion accessories have likely had an impact on the availability of steel wheels, as most of the modern set seem to want shiny blinged up tat to bolt onto their vehicles. Which steel wheels don't really offer.

I think Land Rover fitted something like these to some US Series models:

Not the longer square spokes as opposed the triangle shaped spokes of most 8 spokes.

I have also seen 10 spoke rims along the same style as regular 8 spokes.

You have the traditional Land Rover rim and in wider offset One Ton versions or the very rare 2B variant. You can sort of buy replicas these days upto 8" wide.

Discovery 5 spokes can look quite nice.

Range Rover Rostyle rims.

With some spacers you could probably get Disco 2 steels to fit and a bit more work again probably the new steel rim for the new Defender.

Wolf or 130 rims.

And an array of modular types varying in the number of holes, shape, size and other details.

I'm sure with a bit of ingenuity you could also get wheels for other vehicles to fit maybe Toyota, Ford etc.

I have the Dotz Dakar since 2009 and am quite happy with them. I had the last set sandblasted, primed and powder-coated. This costs as much as a new set but is hopefully more sustainable.
In my opinion a very nice and suitable rim for the vehicle. And cheap!

Aren't they like the Khan wheels, i think they are the 1947 ( not 100% the right name for them ) rims

I never did thank everyone for their input having been intermittently out of the country without access to the internet for extended periods since posting.

I am sure no one is particularly interested, but in the end I opted for some One Ton style rims, which I am happy with. I still wish there was something harder wearing than an alloy but more interesting than a steel rim, which crucially looks like it could have come from the factory.

Yes i was like that to begin with down loading pics and and other information but it's surprising how quick you learn to do this
