Aftermarket Mud Flaps and Side Steps

Hi All,

Looking to get some advice on aftermarket side steps and mud flaps for my new Defender 110 HSE

There appear to be quite a few options (all considerably cheaper than the standard LR offering!) but was wondering if anybody has had any experience with different retailers / sellers and if they are all the same to fit etc and good quality etc.

Side steps look about £200ish and mudflats between £60-100 for full set.

Where would folk recommend I look for a decent set of both side steps and mudflats that avoid crazy pricing but has good fitment and quality etc?

Any good experiences out there?

this may not be the answer you were looking for.

don't fit either. the mud flaps will pull off when mudding off road. the side steps reduce your ground clearance. Why would you want that ?

I won’t be doing any off-roading so they are for easier access and to prevent dirt and mud splashing up the side of the vehicle…

The mud flaps are extremely flexible, had this LR press car off road and whilst they caught a bit they stayed on and returned to shape.

I fitted aftermarket side steps at 1/5 the cost of the Land Rover ones, and they were pretty much the same.

The tubes and brackets were the same. The actual step was some sort of plastic rather than the alloy of the LR steps but it was very strong and possibly even better as it won't corrode.

I would say buy the original mudflaps as the classics have the logo which is highly visible from the rear.
I bought side steps from PowerfulUK as they provide all the clips too, which you will need as they will break. The quality is OK but things don’t align fully, but who says the factory ones fit perfectly too.

You don't need to pull off all the trim, to fit the side steps.

Just use the two long bolts on each bracket and don't bother with the two smaller ones that go into the sides of the bracket.

They are absolutely fine with the larger bolts only. Not even sure why the side bolts are used. Maybe so you can use the side steps as rock sliders lol

I suppose for the £1100 side steps the side bolts mean they're harder to steal, as you have to dismantle steps and take of trim to get to bolts

Side step theft is real, I had a spare wheel and sidesteps stolen when I left my Discovery 4 in Chesterfield train station carpark for a few nights. Replaced the steps with aftermarket and found some security bolts to fit. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

I went with the genuine steps, Grange Land Rover had money off them. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

Pretty much the same. Having said that l ended up with a pair of second hand OE ones as l preferred the silver trim.

These aftermarket ones had plastic steps so unlikely to corrode.
