each to their own, but I feel it's not a Land Rover unless it has the spare on the back panel.
I even fitted a swing-away spare wheel carrier when I had a Freelander 2  Click image to enlarge ...... and that had a tailgate rear door. |

Would LR Assist attend to solve a problem of your own making? I’m not sure I’d want to rely on that.

Lots of them here in the midlands have had their spare wheels stolen so don’t have a spare

Where did you get kit from

I got the panels from predator4x4 on eBay in black (you can’t buy them in carpathian grey) and then chips away painted them for £20.
There are videos on you tube showing how to remove the wheel and bracket which is quite easy. Like you say if I was ever to go off roading I would probably put the wheel back on but for the majority of the time there are far more benefits for me not having the wheel on. |

Lots of cars don't have spares anymore, just a useless tire puncture repair kit. Cheaper and space saving. All good till it goes wrong.
Had a Toyota once (I was young, did not know what I was doing..) hit a pothole instantly deflating the tire. Tried the kit, useless. Called Toyota, sure wait 4 hours and 300 for a new tire.. Called the wife took the wheel off then to the local tyre shop, € 80 all done new same brand tire, back on the car all good. New tire repair kit at Toyota €150. Conclusion: never use your repair kit!! |

I made a spare wheel lock to address the need for removal. I’m sure a determined scroat could get it off but hopefully it’s enough to move them on to other options.

Going anywhere off-tarmac without a spare would be somewhat risky. Plus the "repair goo" would not fix a tyre with sidewall damage. Current vehicle: 2020 Defender 110S

The only way we would get a Defender in our garage, but we still have a height problem even without spare wheel on the roof.
