more for you then, if you head to Napa, drive past towards paralimini looking for a place called fig tree bay, now has a stonking great hotel called the capa bay i think but the original restaraunt is still there, very nice beach, driving back, take the coast road to dhekelia and visit cape greco, very scenic v ery nice.
at the episkopi end there is the curium ampi theatre and ruins, very cool, and if you ever get into epi head right down to teh beach there is a clif you can jump into the sea off called suicide leap or something like that there are also tracks that lead from the sea front at epi right up to the top of troodos, all passable by rover we walked it every year over 3 days i think its about 45 miles sea to top may remember more soon its a few years since i was there |

Kolossi Castle
Thursday as planned I headed out to see Kolossi castle. Unfortunately I still don't have my camera (still waiting for charging cable) but did take a picture with my phone from the top. When approaching the castle there is a sign pointing out that the castle doesn't conform to modern safety standards and that entry is at your own risk- this is because the stairs etc don't have rails on. The walls/ roofs are very solid so don't let that put you off. Inside it isn't like UK castles with boards with descriptions etc. It is just the shell- so it is good to try and read up abut it before going there- it was still worth it for the look around. Time spent there... 30-45 mins. It is only small and without anything to read/ interact with it is quite a quick tour Tip: Take a walk along the old walls through the old town of Kolossi, followed by fresh squeezed juice from the cafe just outside the castle 
View from the top  Click image to enlarge From here we headed North to Kouris resevoir This is an awesome place for a picnic. Unfortunately I didn't realize this before hand (and was going to Micheal's for food anyhow). I picked a smaller dam on the Troodos road as it was a bit more scenic and once off the road there was no traffic crossing the dam. It was possible to walk down the dam and look out over the greeny-blue water. Locally they have a fishing club and water-sports club so you can relax in the sun and also watch them shooting about the water. (Pictures to come once I have my camera up and running). By now I was Hank Marvin, so in the Defender again to drive to Michael's Tavern (Erimi)http://www.michaels-tavern.com/ Unless you have been told abut this place you would never find it. Located down a back street in the village of Erimi it has a small front and inside has long tables running down it's length. No need for a menu, the only meal to have is the meze... Make sure you are hungry as the 8 courses, salad, desert, bread and dips will fill you up to bursting point. Even though you get several Pork, chicken, and squid dishes the price is more than affordable. 2 Meze, 3 cokes, 2 pineapple juices and an orange juice came to a total of E30 (Approx £26). It was an awesome afternoon/ evening. Last night I also had a Fish meze which included several different fish, squid, and octopus.... which was a first for me  .

I did the Cyprus walkabout challenge back in 2000.... Don't know if I would want to run/walk that route again though- I remember having blisters on blisters!! But they don't do that anymore (they do a 1 day Walkdown which is tame)... but, if all goes to well I plan on entering this event next year: http://www.cypruschallenge.com/ Glyn |

I do love the bondu, but do have to leave for food and a wash every now and then
New report: Off-road 'Akrotiri' (with 4x4 club of cyprus) After making contact with one of the larger off-roading clubs out here in Cyprus, the response was very warm and welcoming. Their next event was also even just outside the camp so I could still have a lie-in and a full breakfast before heading out. The event was well organised and included a printout of the route we will be taking, and a police escort for the 2km stretch of road between the two areas off off-road. We started off with a 10km drive through the bondu, with some slightly more difficult parts which were 'optional'...... or as I understood it 'separates the men from the boys'. Then the short road section which lead to a disused quarry by the sea... this was a whole array of steep inclines on one side to dunes on the other. Fun was had by everyone (including the monster truck Nissan Patrols which crashed the party). To finish the event off we headed around to a small fishing harbour for some food and a swim in the sea. Not yet.... due to budgeting reasons when doing the re-furb I was going to fit it with the origional drum.... but then though it would be a shame if I didn't fit a Gigglepin drum, so when I am back in UK next I will buy one and then fit it all

Next we have a weekend in the small harbour town of;
Latchi on the North West coast of the republic of Cyprus. This is a very quiet and quaint fishing village which doesn't have much other than Boat trips, good food and a few pubs. Due to weather we weren't able to go on any boat trips, but in a true win-win situation the backup plan was to go off-roading along the coast up the Akamas nature reserve. As always the sun was out and it was easily within 20+ degrees Celsius. The only problem was the wind which was making the water too rough to sail, but no problems on the ground. We headed West along the coast until the road came to an end which is where the adventure started.... tourists were parking up and preparing for their little walk and take a million pictures of the first few Km of the trail- but with the Land Rover we were able to crack on and head deeper into the wilderness. The area is accessible by several trails which cover many different terrains from soft sand along the beaches to mud and finally rock when heading further up the coast. When it was time for food we found a quiet cove which had nearly flat water so we went for the 1Km treck down the steep sides with food and snorkels...... after eating a couple of sarnies it was time to snorkel, and the left over crusts and crisps had the fish coming out of the rocks for a snack. Evening meal was a fish Meze which was unreal and included squid, several fish, prawns and octopus- which I must say was awesome!! Then on the way back to the hotel we went via the border to have a sneak peak into TRNC followed by a great sunset. Nice one Glyn. I am extremely envious. We always make a point of trekking up to Latchi and Polis. It's a really nice area and easy access from there straight into the Akamas, if you're so inclined.
There's a webcam installed at Latchi watersports which overlooks the harbour, which I often have a look at when I'm missing it, here: http://cyprusliving.org/webcam/webcam.php (The second picture down). Was that TRNC border shot taken at Kato Pyrgos? Pete |

Got to come out again in September for a few days ( yes
Bring it on!) although I don't think I'm going to have much time for relaxing on this trip 
I'm looking forward to seeing the sun for the first time in months though
