I would agree with the bonnet hinge inserts. Lift up your bonnet and if you can move it the inserts are worn. You could drive the vehicle with the bonnet removed and this will confirm for sure if the bonnet hinge bushes are worn. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I now need to add i've got what sounds like a unmetallic creak coming from the steering wheel area, to go with the coin like noise rolling around the radio area.
I brought this 110 completely creak and rattle free 6 weeks ago, the previous owner must of emptied several cans of "creak free" over the whole vehicle Rolling with laughter

Agreed, I tightened up a little bolt that is quite hidden, under the mats and sort of under where the handbrake is IIRC, that cured one of my little rattles!

Def put a bit of lube on the bonet hinge bushes too, that will work.

Cheers

I have got a creak / knock coming from somewhere in the steering column. It’s only noticeable at low speed on a smooth road and it’s worse when it’s warm. I can feel it through the steering wheel. If I grab the steering wheel and put pressure on it I can make the sound happen but there does not seem to be any play in the column, it’s more like something is rubbing somewhere.

Most bushes have been replaced and the problem is still there. Could it be a sign of a bad steering damper? What is making contact with the steering column behind the dash?

Thanks!

If you can't find anything obvious, I would suggest replacing the lower steering shaft. It has three joints in it that can cause a range of noises.
