I'd be interested in any further info, so long as it's not too much trouble for you. Did you cut the original grill or get another? Mike Hard Top 90 TD5 2001 Ford 100e 1959 www.youtube.com/mikemakesit |

This is a myth that I posted about on a similar thread only the other day. Roof lights are perfectly legal as long as they're wired to go on and off with the main beam, just like any other spotlights.
Are you sure about that, Blackwolf? As far as I can see, Road Vehicle Regs suggest no vertical limit to position of optional main beam lights - Schedule 5, Part 1 http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1989/1796/schedule/5/made Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? I agree with the above, I researched this many moons ago and providing a light is only on with main beam and is automatically switched off when the headlights are dipped, there is no restriction other than them being white or yellow and pointing forwards.
You can pretty much put as many additional (optional) lights on as you want and in any position and at any height. Where it becomes more complex is for lights that are operable on dipped beam which is where the minimum and maximum heights come in for fog lights and so on. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

For the reasons already given, a higher mounted position would be much better:
Better beam 'throw' Less shadows Not as vulnerable to damage I've mounted my 20" Rigid Industries bar underneath the top bar of my ARB, where it's nicely recessed too giving more protection, and discrete so less 'in your face' than the lower position designed for lights. Until you light the bar, of course, and it becomes a lot less discrete! It's also conveniently at 'Ford Focus rear view mirror in centre lane' height to alert other road users (lane hoggers) of my presence in accordance with the law I've got a Lazer ST-8 that I'm getting rid off, which I bought to fit on my A-bar, before I bought the ARB. Thanks for all the comments. I am going down the route HuffHuff followed and have just bought a 21" FlatDog bar. I'll list a few snaps when it's installed.

One thing I don't understand everybody want bigger intercoolers and then they go install ledbars in front off them. Roel

Roel, with a picture as posted by gilarion a Defender needs a bigger intercooler.
I think my Entreq intercooler breathing freely without blocking LED bar will be just up for handling these situations. Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

I swapped my number plate for the LED lightbar which is actually takes less surface area. Plus the larger intercooler is full size, so even with lightbar AND number plate, I'd say it's still bigger than standard TD5 Defender 90
