Looks ok to me, you always get a small amount of swarf on the drain plug (magnetic for a reason). 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html
90 V8 - Maggie http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic42564.html

Think I might have a problem............

Very surprised there is still swarf after 48,000 km and presumably at least 2 other previous oil changes??? Shocked YOLO... You Only Live Once...

Probably not 2 changes on transfer box oil - that could be from new.

More should post photos like this and then we have a really valuable knowledge base. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

If you start finding chunks of teeth or synchro rings then you can be more concerned, but that is perfectly normal.

The LT230 is a pretty robust beast.

Thanks everyone. that was a relief.

yes, this was the first oil change for gearbox, transfer box and both axles.

in my case, 48,000kms in 3 years two big trips and approximately going offroad once a month:

-the gearbox oil seems fine, the oil is dark red colored and doesn't smeel too bad. (I measure the dropped oil and mine was under-filled from factory)

-the font axle oil is brownish black and the rear axle oil is also brownish black with quite a bit of bubbles in them.

-the transfer box oil is the worse. it smells really bad and its sort of a think, also silvery black colored.

I think I will be getting a magnetic plug for my gearbox soon and change the transferbox oil more frequently- workshop manuals says tbox oil changed at 80kkms and gearbox oil changed at 200kkms.

Cheers
Martin
