Hi
Just got to campsite with tin tent and it would appear the dometic fridge aint working on gas. There's a little inspect window and I can see the pilot light and ignition working. So to get the gas to light you have depress the temp control know and then let go once light (I always wait 10 secs) but each time I let go of knob the gas goes out. Failed thermo couple? Cheers |

On the old 3 way fridges we used to fit in the Autosleepers, you could remove and clean the thermo couple fairly easily,
But remember you're playing with gas, not sure if Gase Safe applies these days. Keith |

Very likley the thermocouple. No gas safe for caravans but instead the GSIUR (Gas Safety Installation & Use Regulations) but to be fair I think as long as you are competent there shouldn't be any issues. Although I take no responsibility for you going boom in the night! 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Remove the lower vent on the out side, you should be able to get to the burner, check that it is clean , get someone to try and ignite the fridge and check the colour of the flame, it should not be yellow. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

Mines doing the exact same on gas, let the knob go and the wee needle drops away again. I put the 'van in for a service and told them about this, and the cooker not working on gas either - when I got it back they said I needed the fridge and cooker looked at - well duh! Not happy with their 'service' at all.

A lot of caravan service centres do not have staff trained to work on bottled gas due to the costs of training and repeated training and testing.
I took mine into a main dealer in the North East about 8 years ago, when I booked the service they had a full list up in the reception of what a full service covered, when I arrived with the caravan they gave me a list of what they do under service, they had crossed out all checks on gas appliances and those that use 240 volt electric. It didn't leave much else for them to do. They had not altered the cost and when I questioned this they offered to knock off £20.00 from £200.00, I hitched up and drove off. I now used qualified gas (portable appliances) engineers with liability insurance to service the fridge, cooker and water heater and qualified electricians with portable appliance cover to do the electric side of the van. The local Dometic service engineers are qualified for both gas and electric . Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |
