Pigeon Removal (Neighbour Friendly)
I'll start with a bit of background info so I can set the scene. I live in a rented flat in a converted building off the beaten track. I have a designated parking space outside underneath some large trees.

I like my allotted parking space as it is out of sight of the road as you pass, all the better for deterring our light fingered friends. The only trouble I've been having these last few weeks is the amount of pigeon s*** that has greeted me of a morning. It's not even your normal pigeon droppings, it seems really acidic stuff like they've got into the bins round the back of an indian takeaway or something.

Anyway I'd like some suggestions on how is best to deter them from plonking themselves in the tree. (Neighbour and landlord friendly of course, if it were my own place or not shared I wouldn't hesitate in dusting off the air rifle for a bit of sport) Tom

Try a decoy of a predator, something like a bird of prey.

Wait til almost dark [When they have roosted] and let off a firework [or other LOUD bang] under the tree .... They'll take flight and roost elsewhere ...

Loud clapping and shining lamp into tree also works Smile Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

Encourage all the cats in the area by feeding them cheap cat food by the tree. Just be carefull where you walk and give your bonnet a tap before starting on cold mornings Whistle

Hi Tom, The solution may be a mix of most of the above. Forget the decoys- sorry Steve- the pigeons will end up cr@pping on them while roosting.
If the pigeons are wood pigeons make them as uncomfortable as possible with light, sound and movement, it,s time consuming but will work- eventually. If they are feral, rock, street Pickers, homers, whatever you want to call them you must either shoot them out or disrupt their harbourage.
Shooting can be emotive, trapping and releasing DOES NOT work- they are not called homing pigeons for no reason.
You could use a non- toxic, environmentally friendly product such as "Bird-free gel",with tree hangers. It does work but only after you've cleaned all pooh in surrounding area.
Whatever you do, be humane. I,d sort it for you but the travel costs would be a bit high.
Good Luck,
Steve

Once upon a time I was dating a girl who was in a similar situation, we contacted the local falconry place and they for a nominal fee came once or twice a month for about 6 or 7 months and flew a perigrine for an hour or so. Never caught a pigeon but they sure got the message. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

I have a cat-cutout hanging in my tree. Not 100% birdproof, but it seems it reduced it to almost nil.
PS it's hanging free, so the wind makes it move, and it looks like it's waiting to pounce.
And it's in a very light grey, so it contrasts well with the rest of the tree.

We have the same where I park mine under the tree.
Doesn't help when a neighbour across the road leaves trays of food for the birds!!!
most stupid part is the trays are on her lawn, have been as diplomatic as possible in saying she's inviting Rats to the area.
At least when the leaves are out the problem is less. Confused 110XS CSW TD5.

We've got a bird scarer at work that plays bird alarm calls every now and then, you select which birds you're having issues with and leave it be.

It works well and because it's only making bird noises it's fairly discrete too. If a domestic version exists I'd go for it.
