If less than half full, lower the tank as is. If more than half full, syphon it via the filler. No need for a pump.

My 2.4 also does that sometimes. I think it is the starter motor not withdrawing quick enough.

I used a leather seal in the series one front hub. Worked quite well! I didn't know that there was one for the diff pin oil seals as well?!
