Anyone fitted air suspension to a Defender?
I'm looking at fitting air suspension to a 110 Defender and wondered if anyone else has done this? The reason for fitting is so that the vehicle can go under 2.0m-ish height restrictions.

I've tried searching the forum but not found much.

I have found some kits but wanted to see if anyone had used them as I was about to 'press the button' on a kit when I saw some worrying reviews of the company. The attraction was that they sold a range of parts and controllers etc, so repair later on when the bags wear out or something breaks would be easier.

I'm now thinking more along the lines of a kit from a reputable source, but not sure which one now.

VB Air 4C on my 110. Gets me down to 2.0m with a cage and Hannibal rack. Well worth it in my opinion.

Thank you for the information. I have watched those videos and they are interesting, unfortunately those guys are in Australia and shipping to or from there is painfully expensive. The bit they use ar eprobably available here from someone.

I'm now heading towards the VB Air system, I don't think it comes as a kit so I'm hunting for someone to fit it. Top of my list is IRB.

Interesting. That means the VB Air system will work for me, height wise. Can I ask if it was a kit that you fitted, or was fitted somewhere?

As a mad idea I was wondering if I could build some electric spring compressors that compress all four springs on command. All I'm after is a temporary lowering of the vehicle, I'm not after the smoother ride that is advertised (a lot). Presumably the bumps stops are reachable with a compressor, as they must be reached at times. I'm not sure it would bother the springs too much, maybe they wouldn't like being compressed repeatedly, and the mechanics would be interesting to say the least.

Mine was fitted by a ‘Reassuringly Expensive’ company in North Yorkshire beginning with a T.

VB have authorised fitters across the U.K. I think I ended up contacting them via their website and the sent me details of the nearest installer. It’s not a job I would have wanted to do on my own.

There may be warranty concerns if it’s not via an authorised installer.

Look at juice motors videos on youtube. They have done a few.

They are based on borders of Sussex/Kent.

+1 for Juice Motors, I'm planning on using them myself.

They use On Air kit I think.

Same reason for fitting for me... I have a poptop and want to lower the truck for access and also the self levelling feature will help make sure the bed in the roof is level if parked on uneven ground.

I’ve got the VB kit on my defender and it’s great, got all the required approvals, as good a ride as you’ll get in a defender in my opinion. I had it fitted to get my defender into a low garage and have never looked back

As part of the approval requirement, the VB kit has to be installed by an approved installer

The “on air” kit for a defender is just a copy of the VB but without any approvals and is basically the same price so seemed a bit of a no brainier to me

I'm not sure what you mean by approvals. Are there some regulations that need to be met for MOT or something?

I've no idea what the On Air setup is, really, as their website doesn't work at the moment.

Here's a link to the Britpart Kit.

It looks pretty good to me with pre-set ride heights and everything included. It's also about a £1000 less than similar kits.

I guess that one of the important things to consider when choosing a system is if all the parts are available separately for future maintenance.

Also suitable shock absorbers with adequate travel. 2011 130 Utility Body
