United Kingdom 2012 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 XS CSW Orkney Grey
Drivers Door Rattle
Hi,

My 2007 double cab has just developed a rattle inside the drivers door.

You only hear it when the door is shut, once closed and driving along there is no noise and if you "shake" the door whilst open there is no noise.

It is simply when the door is closed/shut

Any ideas what this could be and secondly how easy is it to take off the inside door panel to see what is going on??

Thanks

Ours does this too. Would be interested to hear replies. I suspect that something needs tightening behind the door card - notoriously fiddly to remove without breaking the clips, but these can be bought quite easily. I think removal is a gently-gently job with a big flat head screw driver.

Try a wee drop grease on the catch and latch? 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Removing the door card is pretty straightforward so it wouldn't be that difficult to have a looksee. The most difficult bit is trying to preserve the inner damp membrane while you peel it away. Other than that it's just a case of removing the door pull handle - it's secured by screws each end hidden under plastic flaps, undoing the screw and removing the escutcheon around the lock handle, removing the escutcheon that the pop up and down lock button runs in (by pulling and easing it up), pushing out the centre pins in the plastic rivets here and there on the door card, pulling out the rivet bodies and then easing the card away at each hidden fastener (much easier if you have a pukka tool but can be done with care by hand - you can feel where the fasteners are by gently easing the card away at the edges).

Sometimes the bolts / screws securing the inner panel come loose and can cause the panel to rattle.

PS: The above is a rough 'off the top of the head / half awake / pre morning tea / coffee intake' guide so forgive any blazing omissions Wink Steve.

Rattley Door
My 2011 Defender had over night developed a rattle when the door was shut. Turnes out it was a loose nut which had broken free in the window reg shield, so the nice guys at the local Land Rover service centre replaced it with a new one. Ive had the truck for 6 months now with 2745kms, runs great and love driving it. A big thankyou to Alastair Thumbs Up
