I live in fear of losing the phone line. Our only mobile signal is through a box that connects to the broadband.

Plusnet recently forced us to go from a personal to a business account (for VAT invoices). They've screwed up at every stage. At the moment, I'm getting threats regarding the personal account about non-payment even though all the services have moved to the busines account. On the phone they say there's no problem, but the email keep coming.
No idea how I'll contact them if they do cut us off.

The saga continues Big Cry

Latest estimate for restoration of the line from Openreach, via SKY is now 1st November.

I have registered an official complaint about Openreach through Sky and written to my local MP who also happens to be the Chief Whip. I don't suppose either of these actions will result in any improvement, but at least I feel as though I am doing something!!

I will look into your suggestion bpman, as ditching the landline permanently may be a way forward. Not sure about the 4G signal in our area though on EE. I'm hoping I can find details of our data usage somewhere in the Sky billing so I can figure out how much data we would need.

Back on line today, ahead of the last date given.

Good news that services have been restored, but pretty poor that it has taken OpenReach a whole month to fix a problem of their own making.

I've been looking into the EE 4GEE router in more detail. If there are any competitive high usage data plans available for it when the Sky contract expires in December, then I may go down that route.

As an interim measure I have been using a Vodafone 4G dongle which came with 16GB of data for £20 direct from Vodafone with £10 cashback through Topcashback. The speed is very impressive with upload/download speed tests better than the broadband. So this makes me think 4G could well be the way to go if the data plan prices reduce.

with 5G around the corner, I do wonder if the days of having a telephone line will soon be a thing of the past.

When I lived in Norfolk BT broke half the phone lines to the village whilst pulling fibre through to the next town along, bypassing us.

After two months without a working phone line we gave up and moved to a wireless service through ThinkingWISP.

Openreach blokes kept coming out, telling us that they needed to go down a manhole but there was only one of them and they needed two to do the job safely, then they left again.
