150 AB Tune BAS Queery
hey guys, what difference is there in off road performance for 2.4 puma.....? Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming...

'Wow...! What a ride!

I have this, it's certainly noticeable.

An extra push in the mid range gives more flexibility in gear selection and general fun times, and the amount of fuel used is only marginally more in my case (more fun to drive means more 'go' from my foot Shocked Laughing ).

However, if you're really wanting a 'Holy Cr@p!' moment, I'd go for the full 170 with intercooler.

Either way, the other bonus that keeps on giving is the suite of onboard diagnostics that comes with the RR2. In hindsight this has been very helpful on various jobs like coolant change, battery/alternator stuff and clearing the occasional redundant dash warning light after I've been more 'personal' with my maintenance ( Rolling Eyes ). Noteworthy would be that I did my own VCV replacement with the built in learning procedures on the RR2. I think the cost of doing that at a LR specialist in NZ could easily chew up half of the cost of the remap itself Thumbs Up Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

I have the BAS170AB so can't directly comment on the 150 but you'll find it makes power delivery a lot smoother, more controllable, much less kangerooing at low speed. Therefore more controllable making it better off-road? The extra power obviously will also help Thumbs Up Highly recommend Pete Bells remaps! James

thanks guys, the 170 tune is not needed for me the 150 will be fine, i’m interested in the observed differences and experience driving the vehicle after the tune, off bitumen, whether it be shlepping through sand or tootling around green lanes... to be clear, i’m not so much interested in making the vehicle faster, i live in alice springs, 80% of my driving is unsealed road and track, stone and sand... i don’t tow caravans and could care less about hooning around on the blacktop.... the remap for me is about getting the damned egr shut and a smoother driving experience will be a bonus.... i am happy with how the wagon currently performs off road and was just wondering what changes, if any, folks noticed after the tune when driving in low box.... thanks Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming...

I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed. It really does transform the whole drive, not just extra power. James

I have just changed from the 150 to the 170 with the intercooler. The year I had with the 150 was a noted improvement over standard. More tractable at lower speed, so better off road. Low range was better, but to be honest at the slow speeds in low range not a massive change, except smoother. Still a bit of kangerooing at times, but much better than standard.
However the 170 is better again. Forget the fact that its faster to get to your chosen speed, its just pottling about town or back lanes at modest speed that its really good. No kangerooing at all and even smoother to drive than the 150. Overall I'm very impressed.

Had BAS Intercooler/Hoses/170 remap done at LRO Show Peterborough (this also includes electronic EGR blank). The difference on-road is night and day. SO much more power! Not had a chance to lane/off-road it at 170 yet but I have high hopes! Very Happy

It's only a quick nip over to near York to get it done in house or it can be done remotely if you check the website Ray
