Might or might not suit your layout, but I've fitted a Watling Engineers PRO9DT (three receivers for the towing hitch, if you’re slightly offset you can better see the side of whatever it is you’re pushing; in my case a large boat into a narrow drive at the side of my house) to my truck. It's bolted to the chassis legs but also to my standard bumper so you might have to investigate or 'phone them to see if they do a "simpler" one.
But boy, does it make things easier! Peter |

This is a front tow bracket I knocked up in a few hours. It fits on either side front chassis jacking points and uses the same through bolt that secures the towing eye. The 30 mm peg in the middle of the bracket goes into the the jacking point hole. It's dead sturdy and easy to fit.and remove when done.

Now that is a damned good idea, the simple ones are the best. Unfortunately it would be a bit of a pain with mine as I've got a Jate ring and the steering guard uses the same hole in the chassis and would be a pain to sort every time I used it. I fabricated a bracket that drops over the bumper next to the chassis rail, having a winch bumper with a tray sticking out puts it out that far. The bracket drops over the bumper and a pin keeps it from lifting off. I used an old Dixon Bate slider set up for the bulk of the bracket so I can just put the relevant saddle with hitch on I want. The one with the Nato hitch at the top for my Sankey or the one with the ball and pin hitch for verything else.
Having th additional feature of the slider means that there's adjustment for height plus I only need the one tow bracket for front and rear. It makes putting the Sankey back in the garden so much easier and I could also use the front winch to load a trailer if need be by hitching the said trailer to the front. |

I agree, my design is not going to work for everyone if they have other features on the front of their defender like you. As it is I've had to make the bracket length a lot longer to clear the plastic bull bar thing that is fitted to my defender (not my choice, it was fitted when I bought it).

Thanks for that, I'm a firm believer in the saying "if it looks right, it is right" To be honest I looked around and found lots of clonky designs and thought I can surely come up with something better. It does transfer the load to the chassis in a very efficient way. Simple and effective.
