replacing crewcab/SW second row crossmember (td5)
Hello.
I have just removed the crossmember with the body in place. The sills will be removed too for galvanising later.

The new cross memeber will be made locally and the seat supporting mounts will be bolted on instead of welded on as per some after market bits.

Is it a good idea to make cross member a half inch shallower to make it easier to slide in from under the sills? Or it is better off removing floor boards and dropping it from there? i think i will need to replace the upright alu part where the seats hing on. it is a bit corroded.

Ciao.

I have heard of people making/cutting the crossmember in half, then re-attaching both halves (be it welding in situe, or having pre-welded on tabs and bolting it together) once it's back under the rear bodywork.

i am going to fabricate one myself. sadly postage costs put me off. i have a "friend" who builds truck beds and is great at sheet metal press. we can do it easily using 3mm sheet and have it galved here. i am thinking of doing it a half inch shallower to help
installation but since i will remove the alu upright part... it can drop from above.

Did mine by removing the second row floor and sliding the new one in from there. Was quite easy, just need to watch the fuel lines.
