Had another look at the filter head. Looks like the nrv was in the wrong line. It was closest chassis rail pointing forwards. I've now moved it into the union closest to the chassis rail pointing rearwards. Only now the battery is flat argh.

Other thing is I couldn't get the quick release connection off one of the unions. Pushing the two tabs in did nothing so I had to unscrew it with the pipe still attached. Any ideas how I could remedy this? The connection seems to be bonded to the fuel pipe which is then a huge length going to the front of the vehicle. No matter how hard I pressed the tabs in they wouldn't release the final pipe and to be honest I think they're now broken...

I assume all 4 unions are the same size on the filter head and its not me putting the wrong / oversized one in a connection last year?

Right so progress report...

Fuel pressure regulator repaired - made no difference
NRV moved to the correct union on the LP feed - made a slight difference, now easier to start but not right

Next steps...

New NRV and Bleed Valve on order. Will replace and try again.

If that fails ill get the injector seals replaced.

Right, so I've replaced the NRV and Bleed Valve for new genuine parts, gave it a good prime and a run. Left it overnight and it was around 1deg.c this morning and she fired up fine! There was a little whine for a second or two from the pump then it settled down whereas before it was whining for minutes+.

Hopefully a result! Don't want to jinx it though...

Sound good it take second or two for the air bleed to wet up and work i.e. air out one way and not the fuel Thumbs Up

Arregggghhhhhh!! So after a couple of days it started playing up. First chugging and running rough when it first fired up and now its got worse again such that after it fires it bugs then dies and I have to recrank it.

Nowhere near as bad as it was but I don't really understand why it was ok and then a few days later its deteriorated again. Sigh.

I'm a bit late in the advice stakes but for what it's worth probably the first thing I would have done is new injector seals and washers. In my experience doing that has cured 90% of diesel problems, it is a daunting task if you've never done them before but it really is a simple job Thumbs Up
