Puma wont learn injetcors
Hi Guys,

My 110 refuses to carry out an injector learn cycle

I replaced the VCV on the pump as it was running poorly & coughed under hard throttle.

My indi mates use the latest autologic test book & have done this service on plenty of others with no issuse

They tried at all different temps but still no luck Crying or Very sad

All they could do was intector balancing & check for faults & none found

Anybody else had this prob??

Thanks Chris

Is it cold where you're at?

I know you said you tried it at all temps, but when I was doing a pilot correction learn the early morning ambient temperature kept pulling the engine out of temp before it would complete.

Finally got it going on a moderate midday.

Different process I know, but yeah... Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

Mine have never been programmed. Ian [IRB Developments] has tried many times during various re-maps, but they won't have it Rolling Eyes

They are running on default setting without any issues, been that way for 7 years or longer. Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

Ah so its not just mine which wont have it then Confused

Its just when I got my foot down in esp in 5th when its pulling its hardest in my case Cool it will cough & power will die back.

If you drive carefully its ok. Its as if something is not talking for a few seconds.

When its just sat there it will rev up super quick but at 4000rpm the TC lamp will come on Shocked

No it does not reach this rpm very often!

Thought a injector learn will help Chris

I actually encountered this injector learn error before and tried many times to do the injector learn. Once we were frustrated, we decided to check the fault codes again, we noticed a certain code kept coming up every now and then so we checked the shop manual and it was a code for the pump learn. We said what the heck and tried it, the whole thing went through, engine now purrs like a happy kitten and all other fault codes disappeared.

I hope this helps.

Carrying out a pump learn before the injector learn seems to help.

I don't know why it should be, but with my Defender I have trouble with both pump and injector learns with some diagnostic tools and not with others - the Faultmate MSV is the only one which actually seems fairly consistent and reliable at these operations.

Remember also that it is rumoured that the ROM in the ECU only has the capacity for a limited number of relearn operations, although I am not aware that anyone has ever had problems as a result of this. Indeed not long ago I was talking to one of the contriy's leading tuners on this very subject and we were discussing how the process for storing pump and injector data might actually work, given that no-one ever appears to have 'run out of ROM'.

The ECU is also adaptive, which means that it will self learn, but seemingly it does this less frequently (or at least less rapidly) as time progresses. A vehicle with delivery mileage will self-learn in a very short time, whereas a high mileage vehicle will take ages. Evidence of this comes from the fact that if you simply keep clearing the "pump relearn not performed" DTC, it will eventually stop recurring.

Without access to the design documentation for the ECU and its software - which is never going to happen of course - it is all rather a black art.

I had issue confusing o and 0 but taking a picture of the codes enlarging and checking found the error with me.

After this I could program the new codes no problem with IID tool. "Rafiki" 2007 110 STW - Rolling rebuild.
