Fitting ZU alloy onto Mantec style Spare Wheel Carrier
My tale of tyre woes is not quite over although I do now have 5 ST Maxx's on 5 ZU rims and they look fantastic.

However, can I fit the spare onto the wheel carrier which has only been used for steel wheels to this point (obviously I need to use alloy type wheel nuts) or should there be something behind it other than the standard wheel nuts to space it out from the back of the truck.

Advice requested as I now desperately want to get them on the car. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

I had the same problem switching from Twisted alloys back to boosts. I went with a spacer to push the wheel out a bit. Strong people are harder to kill and generally more useful!

I had the same issue, there should be some large spacer nuts that fit between the back door and the wheel rim, obviously a set of 3, then you can adjust the distance from the back door to stop it rubbing etc depending on the tyre width. They are fairly loose until the wheel is bolted on.

I use steel wheel nuts on the inside of the wheel and alloy wheel nuts on the outside. I set the inside 8nes so the tyre clears the door and then use lock the alloy one on so it sandwiches the wheel between the two bolts 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)

Thanks guys, I have worked out a solution using the outer plate of my "on the door wheel carrier" cut down accordingly to support the back of the alloy wheel against the stop nuts. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

I just screwed a normal nut onto each stud and then slid a large washer onto each one for the wheel to press up against. Screw the nuts in or out to adjust the space between the tyre and the door. ONE LIFE, GET IT!

So here it is the backing plate to take the spare wheel

Complete with vinyl covered cable bike lock to secure wheel to the carrier. Handily the bracket bolted around the tube of the wheel carrier so it wont bounce around.

Wheel on and locked up

Now has the spare wheel cover on as well. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.
