Headlights Suddenly Turn On And Light Switch Off
Hi All!

Just encountered this peculiarity two days ago. Every now and then, once parking, turning off the switch to turn off the headlights, they go out momentarily but will come on again for a few minutes then turn themselves off. The position lights are obviously off at this point and it was very alarming at first.

Question now is, any idea what causes this so I can deal with it? The sparky that worked with it installed headlight relays a few days before the Land Reizinger kit then installed the kit on top if that. Been trouble free since installation a few weeks ago up until two days ago.

I can't deal with it right now but have an appointment with the sparky next week. So any suggestions will help so we can narrow things down when we meet.

Many thanks in advance! It's really never over in a Rover...

Have you upgraded your h4 lamps to a higher wattage? Sounds like your switch has partially melted

Most likely the switch has melted, do a search on this site loads of info.
There are a few kits available to help with the issue, basically all the voltage to the lights goes through three light switch.

Hi All!

Still using standard wattage lamps, albeit they be Osram Nightbreaker Ultras.

I already have the Land Reizinger kit installed plus a redundant relays installed as well.

New switch was installed a few months back and with the wiring kits, I was presuming that this will no longer be a problem so what gives?

Since I'll have the steering cowls removed to check the ignition switch to eliminate this as a culprit for another issue I'm encountering, I'll let the sparky check the switch as well then.

If anyone else has any ideas, please do chime in. I see the sparky next week so it would be nice to hand him a list of possibilities to check. That, plus the earth cheat sheet for him to ponder over as well.

Check the relays of the new installation.
Happens sometimes in wet climates that the relays goes weird due water ingress.

Cheers and good luck Eduardo
