TD5 centre console and dash binnacle tabs.
Hi,

Two of the top three tabs on my centre console are broken, as per photo:-

Any solutions, or am I to hunt around for a good used item?
I appear to have a similar problem with the bottom part of my dash binnacle.😟

With thanks

Probably easiest to get a replacement, check to see how much it costs new. You could cable tie it in place by drilling a hole in the remains of each mounting, plus another in the main dash where the mounting is, then put a cable tie through both holes.

You can buy them new, but they are quite expensive, and second hand they seem very sought after - so I'd try gluing new tabs on first. I've not done it myself, but abs plastic is supposed to be quite easy to work with.

Having said all that - if you do buy a replacement I'd buy this broken one, which might offset some of your costs?

Just use a big washer under each screw to clamp it down. It's not and area that should get much pulling about. Ray

Thanks All.

Replacements appear rare, and had a quick look on-line last night- £180 from a supplier!
I'll try the washer route and see how it hangs on!

Cheers,

Robin

I've successfully repaired a couple of very similar broken tabs on the instrument (Clocks) binnacle on my 90.

I found a bit of a broken casing from an old scrapped TV of a similar thickness and type of plastic and fashioned some replacement tabs to fit in place of the broken off bits, then glued them in place with PVC pipe adhesive, I clamped them in place while the glue set and just tidied up around the edges and now they're as good as new. Thumbs Up

If you know anyone with a 3D printer they could print some replacement tabs for you with a suitable way to attach them to the existing surround. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

If I remember correctly the tabs are only like a 2 prong fork anyway so it's just the screw clamping down that holds the console in place so washers will be fine. Ray
