Intermittent starting problem

Turned the ignition the other day and starter wouldn't turn - switched off, locked doors, unlocked and car started fine - happened twice, been OK since. It happened once before about two months ago but I thought it was an isolated incident - anyone else had a similar problem?

Perhaps we should club together and buy Land Rover some spanners. I've found all three door stay latches loose, a loose earth strap, a loose heat shield and a loose spare wheel bracket.

cobs.our's did the same thing only once,I think it's a soft wear issue with the alarm.

Yes I had the same on the dealers fourcourt when I took mine out for a spin, whith 3 miles on it. I put it down to the alarm and asked them to look at it.

Happened again the other day but just the once, and locking then unlocking cleared the problem.

Not encountered it on the puma but my 300tdi has been known to do this (usually at the most inconvinient time and when maximum embarrassment is likely), resseting the alarm works on that too.

Hey I got the same ask dealer they said it how LR has made it, so if you get out leaving keys in it no one can then nick it. As it will not start or start and run for 5 to 10 sec then cut out and try starting it nothing take key out wait 30sec. Know the good bit it should start but 30 sec seem like a life time when you want to get going somewhere Rolling with laughter

Is your key the 2008 type with the big black end parktag ?

When you have this problem, release the Hand Brake and try again. If it cranks over and starts you have a bad earth between the chassis and battery Thumbs Up

No, my key is the old design. As i said before i leave them in all the time without any problems and there's nothing in the hand book concerning this function. I guess theres a problem elsewere.
Sorry i can't be more help.

Call me thick Confused .

Something similar has happened to me but I put it down to this (an extract from the owners manual on page 15):

Quote:
Engine immobilisation
Engine immobilisation prevents the engine
from being started without a valid key and
remote control and is activated whenever the
alarm is armed using the remote control.

In addition, the immobiliser activates
automatically under the following conditions:
• Thirty seconds after the starter switch has
been turned off and the driver's door is
opened.
• Five minutes after the starter switch is
turned off or after the alarm system is
disarmed (if the starter switch has not
been turned on).

I haven't lost any sleep over it nor have I analysed it (too much of this happens at work Rolling Eyes)
