Before you despair too much, you may be lucky by squirting a good penetrating fluid from above and below and then putting a slightly smaller than the threaded hole bit in your drill, centre punch the last of the bolt and drill the remainder through. The action of the bit may wind the remainder through the hole. If it was a blind hole left hand drill bits can sometimes unwind the stumps out but as it's a through hole you may be lucky and drive it on through.

JWL,
That was going to be my first attempt/hope but we all know life isn't that simple!!! Who knows it may be a first?! IF it works what are the bolts to replace it with, I've seen on one of the threads they are fairly unusual? I'm not going to get a chance to have a go for a couple of days so just gave it a quick spray to hopefully work away in the mean time. I can't seem to get the bolt head end out of the housing cover either - it seems 'captive' by something, could it just be where the thread has sheered it not coming up and out? Thanks. 2002 110 CSW TD5, Zambezi Silver 1995 110 CSW 300TDi - SOLD |

If you have the top plate off then you might have to cut off an end, either the head and push it through or the exposed thread if it's snagging. From what I can remember they were just plain metric threads, with mine I just put a longer bolt in which caught threads lower down and gave it holding capabilities. The bolt was long enough to put a nut underneath more for piece of mind than anything, all that I remember is that I still use a 10mm spanner at service time.

I see what you mean, but if you drill through, being careful with going bigger... But should be okay, just slow and steady and fix the bolt with a nut through the other side.. A Defender... Mans best friend, never judges, trustworthy (most of the time), go anywhere, do anything, looks the business, and mans biggest money pit!!!
Yes the name for my 90 is Derrick! |

No joy yet! It may have to come off as it's hard to get a decent line on it with a drill given that size are all short! 2002 110 CSW TD5, Zambezi Silver
