That is absolutely brilliant!
A typical "Landy" approach to solving a problem that others charge good money for! I have a Puma, and will definitely be doing the same. Well done! Puma works too. Brilliant!
tt is worthwhile to make sure the remote casing clips together securely and that the area where the key tongue is attached is as solid as possible. The housing was not intended to be used to rotate an ignition cylinder. If the ignition lock engages, the force that is applied while rotating the wheel to free the lock should not be underestimated. 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MTīs, Recaro CSīs, anorak, wellingtons |

The key exits below the clips so has no 'stress' effect on the top half and should be 'very' well glued into the base.
The mod can be done for under Ģ10 and you can always go back to orginal without issue. Just buy a spare case from ebay to cut up and use a 'cut' key from local key cutting place. Put your orginal key and case safe. You only need to the fob internals which swap over in seconds http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150977396204 |

I did mine some months ago and one thing that is well worth mentioning is to make sure you have glued it in well. I have successfully used a hot glue gun but my first attempt looked all fine untill I went out to disarm the motor, the fob wouldn't work but when I parted the two halves it did. The pcb is very susceptable to anything touching it, even your fingers can stop it transmitting if they are touching it. I trimmed the cut out bit of the key, reglued it and all has been fine ever since.

You can buy them from http://www.remotekey.co.uk/land-rover/defender-2/ ready done, I've had one since May and use it as my primary key.
