300 TDi cut out switch
Hi
A mate of mine (whose a car trader) has just asked if an old 300 Tdi would be fitted with a cut out switch that would be tripped if the car started to over heat. Candidly I've never heard of such a thing but I suspect there's lots of people far better qualified to provide an answer here on Def2 than me Bow down
Anyone got any ideas?
Thx

Never heard of, but it would not be hard to make it.
Plumb in an adjustable thermostat fan controller, let the controller activate a "break type" relay to cut out the fuel solenoid. Set the adjustable controller to a temperature slightly higher to the max. temperature you think the engine has to cut out. And for safety reasons, add an override switch to the relay. Cheers, Vincent

This might take a bit of plumbing.
The puma / dura torque engine is fitted as standard with a thermal cut out switch. It`s on the back of the cylinder head NO 4 cylinder.

You could, if you desired some how plumb it into the cooling system, head or block area.
Then run in series thru to the fuel pump fuel cut off solenoid. When the engine over heats. The circuit is broken and it cuts out.

A bit drastic if you ask me, a warning light or buzzer would be better. To warn of low coolant level. Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires.
