Soft Clutch Pedal
I Have a 2007 Defender 130 hi-cap tdci, the clutch pedal went soft after I drove it a couple of days ago and also stuck down. I messed around with the pedal, lubed the pedal mechanism and then it seemed better, perhaps a little soft still but drove fine. I also checked the reservoir which it turned out was very low so I topped it up and this then stiffened the pedal. If left the pedal goes soft again and only stiffens with repeated pumping of the pedal. I Keep checking the reservoir but it's still full. Any thoughts?

Probably seal in the master or slave cylinder letting the fluid past.

Have you got a bit of slack at the top of the clutch pedal before you feel pressure when you depress the clutch pedal? If so go for a drive with your foot resting on the clutch pedal taking up the slack. Does your pedal stay stiff when you do this? If so adjust the slack out of the pedal using the pedal adjuster bolt.
If the above makes no difference change the return valve located on the slave cylinder which protrudes from the bell housing. This valve allows a little pressure in the system to stop all the fluid returning to the reservoir which will give you a slack clutch pedal.
Also check underneath the bell housing for leaking clutch fluid as the slave cylinder may be on its way out though they tend to fail completely. Thumbs Up

The fluids gone low and drawn a bit of air in , give it a bleed then keep a eye on fluid level

Thanks for your help guys, really appreciate it. I've driven it today and it seems to be ok. I Havnt touched anything, fluid levels are still good in the reservoir. Could probably do with adjusting the bite point up on the pedal though..how do I go about doing that?

Had the same symptons as previously mentioned, though when I checked the clutch fluid reservoir the fluid was black, had the slave cylinder replaced, all good now Very Happy
