Veno - The thought has crossed my mind but I won't be drilling any more holes!
Perhaps something affixed around the fuel cap cord instead, a Defendoor isn't very heavy.
I'd like to bond something on from the inside but the plastic it's made of nothing want to stick to it readily.

Munch - Too right! I'm very meticulous on that though and I've never lost a fuel cap so far in 5 years.
I'm most interested in making sure Diesel goes in! Shocked

I didn't mean drilling more holes Steve... Shocked

Just adding a second cord to the one you already have... Whistle

There must be a way of fixing or 'welding' a fixing to the Defendoor?... Rolling Eyes

Easier said than done, yes you can put a hole through the Defendoor with a rivet or something but it doesn't look as nice.
Also, unless it's plastic (the rivet) if it does come off the side it will certainly damage the paint by scratching.
And I'd rather I lost the Defendoor than that.
I think that they are made of EPDM if I ree,her tightly.

I use a length of fishing wire tied around the filler neck and tied too a small hole made in the top lip of the defendoor. You can't see it when it's on, it won't rust and You can leave the defendoor to dangle of it while your filling up.

Don't know about that retaining strap?
Unless there is someone to hold the cap whilst filling up, it rests against the paintwork, which does not impress me at all. Solution?.....Wifey gets out as well at fill up time & holds the cap!
Silly, but true. Pickles.

If you gently place it against the body there will never be a problem, if it's chucked off and allowed to hit or move about on the side it would cause scratches eventually.

What size drill and what have you painted it with Steve?

6mm if I recall correctly, just a very minor amount of body colour paint around the drilled hole.
That's it, might spray a little Dinitrol from underneath once it's fitted to be sure.

Wrong! Found in the end I'd needed to use a 6.5mm drill bit.
Fitted no no problem:

Thanks Steve, my husband is about to get his drill out so that's really useful.

Mmmmm mince pies???

I do not understand this fuss about how NOT to lose your Defendoor. All the ideas about fishing line, gluing straps on, using wife etc etc. I know full well what Barbara would say if I suggested she got out of cab to hold the Defendoor. Let's just say it would be short and pithy!

I have a very simple solution

Step 1) Remove Defendoor with right hand

Step 2) Transfer Defendoor to left hand

Step 3) Remove fuel cap with right hand

Step 4) Transfer fuel cap to left hand OR let it dangle gently off lanyard

Step 5) Use right hand to remove fuel noozle from pump and fuel vehicle.

Step 6) Finish fuelling, replace fuel noozle in pump and reassembly is the opposite of disassembly.

NOTE if you are left handed swop left for right in instructions above.

Believe it or not by following the above steps I have not lost one Defendoor yet Thumbs Up

There again feel free to leave your Defendoor on the pump/ground/rear bumperette etc. It just means more mince pies for me! Razz

Hole drilled and painted Smile

Just letting it dry and then it's job done.

I bought one of these from Brendan at the B & W show. It was an 'impulsive' purchase and cheap! Great buy....got some 1mm electrical cable fed it through the aperture to the rear arch crimped both ends drilled a hole in the Defendoor and attached the cable to a small stainless dome head bolt with a ring tongue terminal to make a lanyard to prevent me from forgetting it and an opportune 'toe rag' from pinching it in a second.

Job jobbed and Bob would be your auntie if he had them lopped off! Laughing
