Thanks again Dave, another quickie, for you or anyone else who has experienced real world use of any of these Tracker units: It seems many of them may not be compatible with the widely used 3G SIM cards available almost exclusively in the UK... They will work as long as the supplier is not exclusively 3G/4G (Three or EE I think are the only two that won't work). Orange (I know, part of EE but still offering 2G) work OK as do O2, GiffGaff and so on.
GiffGaff are popular, especially if you use a GiffGaff sim in your phone as unlimited texts are free both ways then although technically you're entering a grey area regarding their T&C. On Orange, used daily, it averages out at around £7 a month, much cheaper on vehicles that aren't used on a daily basis. Bear in mind the better coverage you have the better the device will work so choosing a provider that offers good coverage in your area is important ! http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

Thanks yet again Dave, that's very helpful...
Guess I am going to have to check coverage now, although GiffGaff seems to be a fave for this application... Great looking app you have in TKController... Can't wait to check it out for real... I've started work on an Android version of the TKController app:
http://tkcontroller.org/2014/12/android-support/ It's something a few people have mentioned from Defender 2 and if you are interested in testing it please let me know via the link on the page linked above so I can keep track and send you the appropriate links when new versions become available. I'm currently only supporting Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) and above and may well end up only supporting Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) and above if there is no real user base for 4.0. For that reason it's important I find out what the user base is still using although I suspect most will be running Jelly Bean or higher as stats on my other Android apps suggest that 4.1 is the lowest version in normal use and the vast majority of users are using 4.3 or higher. There will also be a new version of the iOS app in the next month or so with improved device definition support. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

Hey Dave, that all sounds great and, as I had to pick up an Android device recently as well, I have just registered on your site as suggested...
I have been using the TK Controller on my Tracker quite a bit and generally find it brilliant in use - at least now I have found the little quirk on the Stockade button (my tracker needs three leading zeroes before the decimal point, not just a single one!)... And the Status (Check) button doesn't seem to elicit a response from the Tracker either, but Locate does the job well enough... Rog... The GREEN One... Holy thread resurrection Batman !
It's been a while but I thought I'd update this with the news that I've finally managed to get the Android version of the app working and ready for beta testing ! If anyone is interested in testing the app you can opt in here... https://play.google.com/apps/testing/net.webdesigna.tkcontroller I only have a single device to test on myself so any feedback you can give me, good or bad, will help immensely. Please make sure you include as much information about your Android device, when emailing reports, as you can. The app is usable but not optimised for tablet devices yet, I need to redesign some of the views to both allow landscape use and tidy up the interface on tablet devices. That's not a high priority in terms of making the app available though. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

Thanks for the update Dave... I will try out the Android version later and feedback here... In the meantime, the issues above, on my iPhone are still very much evident and I wondered if you will be providing a fix for them at some point... Talking of which, the Track On button, although seemingly accepted, likewise does not elicit a response from the tracker... By the by; the thread is not that old compared to some recent revivals... Did you send me the manual for your tracker ?
I can't remember where I got to with it, hopefully it's just a device config change. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |
